Critical Care APP (PA-C/AGACNP) – Nocturnist | Baltimore, MD MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital

MedStar Health is seeking a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Critical Care team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Practice at the top of your license in a high-acuity critical care environment alongside experienced intensivists, Advanced Practice Providers, and multidisciplinary care teams. This nocturnist role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse mix of medical and surgical critical care patients while serving as a key leader in the overnight management of critically ill patients throughout the hospital.

Position Highlights
  • Full-time nocturnist position with 147 annual shifts
  • 198-bed community teaching hospital serving Northeast Baltimore
  • 17-bed closed Medical/Surgical ICU
  • High level of autonomy with collaborative intensivist support
  • Lead Rapid Response and Code Blue teams throughout the hospital
  • Diverse medical and surgical critical care patient population
  • Key service lines include Primary Stroke Services, Vascular Surgery, Acute Care General Surgery, Complex Wound Care, and Limb Salvage programs
  • Advanced bedside procedural opportunities including central venous catheters, non-tunneled dialysis catheters, arterial lines, chest tubes, and thoracentesis
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture with strong physician and APP partnerships
Essential Job Duties
  • Manage critically ill medical and surgical ICU patients in collaboration with intensivists and multidisciplinary care teams
  • Lead Rapid Response and Code Blue activations throughout the hospital
  • Evaluate unstable patients and facilitate escalation of care to the ICU when appropriate
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop evidence-based treatment plans
  • Perform bedside procedures including central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, and thoracentesis
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, patient transitions of care, and APP education initiatives
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program
  • NCCPA certification (PA) or AGACNP certification (NP) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • One year of critical care or inpatient hospital medicine experience preferred
  • Advanced procedural experience preferred
  • New graduates with strong critical care interest and training will be considered
