General Summary of Position
Oversees all aspects of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) Bone Marrow and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell (PBSC) Acquisition / Collection and Bone Marrow Transplant services at Georgetown University Hospital (GUH) which encompasses but is not limited to: The Blood and Marrow Collection Program affiliated with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) for the procurement of blood and marrow cells from unrelated volunteer donors in response to requests from transplant centers within the NMDP network both domestic and international. Serves as a clinical resource for Bone Marrow transplantation collection practices and training practices both internally and externally. Collaborates with the Medical Directors of all programs to ensure the utmost quality of clinical care and cell product. Oversees and participates in efforts to obtain and maintain accreditation by the Foundation for Accreditation for Cellular Therapies (FACT) as well as in the process of readiness for regulatory audits from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or other regulatory body. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown university Hospital's philosophy policies procedures and standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Oversees program affiliated with DOD and NMDP as well as other donor programs to facilitate the Harvest Program / Stem Cell Apheresis/ Donor Leukocyte collections.
  • Works closely with designated physicians and Director of Harvest program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as defined by program.
  • Supports and assists in development of Operations Plan for the Adult program with the National Cancer Institute (NCI liaison Officer members of Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) and Georgetown University Hospital Administration.
  • Assist AVP and Administrative Director in Budget Preparation
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of the training program for hematopoietic stem cell collection being funded by a grant from the Department of Defense.
  • Serves as a liaison between GUH and the NCI designated Liaison. Participates in clinical research activities for the Blood and Marrow Collection Program.
  • Ensures that program development follows the guidelines established by GUH the FDA NMDP CIBMTR FACT as well as any other regulatory agencies as necessary. Represents Institution at NMDP Program Council meetings
  • Supports and assists in development of Operations Planning for integration of Pediatric BMT program as defined in Hospital's strategic plan.
  • Assists and coordinates the development of Standard Operating Procedures appropriate to the running of the program.
  • Collects and maintains data for yearly accreditation of the HSCT Program and with the NMDP. Completes and submits accreditation paperwork within the time frame specified. Actively participates in the process of accreditation of both the Bone Marrow Transplant and the Blood and Marrow Collection Programs by (FACT) as well as in the process of readiness for regulatory audits from the FDA. Triage calls to GUH regarding HSCT past and present.
  • Ensures that all protocols and consents remain current and in good standing with the GUH and NMDP and Institutional Review Board as necessary. Reviews and maintains all Collaborative agreements and procedures associated with the collection processes as well as any accreditation paperwork associated with the NMDP. Serves as a resource for various departments and department personnel as it relates to BMT program development. Responsible for acting as resource both formally and informally for hospital staff regarding the transplant and collection process.
  • Coordinates with outside transplant centers to facilitate the transfer of bone marrow or stem cells that were cryopreserved and are stored here at GUH for use at their facility. Collaborates with Lombardi Cancer Center physicians and the HLA lab at GUH to have HLA typing performed on potential transplant candidates. Facilitate obtaining HLA typing on potential sibling donors within the GUH geographical area and around the country.

  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree B.S.N. degree required
    Experience
    • 5-7 years Clinical experience in a hospital setting. previous blood and marrow transplant experience.previous bmt clinical nursing or coordinator experience. required
    Licenses and Certifications
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in the District of Columbia. required
    Knowledge Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Familiarity with IBM PC and software such as Windows (i.e. Microsoft Office Word PowerPoint Excel Access etc.)

    This position has a hiring range of

    USD $89,065.00 - USD $162,801.00 /Yr.
