General Summary of Position

The Inpatient Pharmacy at MedStar Franklin Square is hiring a PRN Pharmacy Student. 

 

The Pharmacy Student will conduct medication histories in the Emergency Room as well as Reviewing physician-prescribed medications to ensure appropriate dosing, therapeutic effectiveness, and the absence of allergies, drug interactions, or contraindications. All responsibilities are performed under the supervision and review of a licensed pharmacist. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Assists in troubleshooting and maintenance of automated drug distribution system. Serves as a resource to nursing and pharmacy technicians regarding the use and control of drugs in the automated system.
  • Assists pharmacist with filling orders and IV preparation and delivery.
  • Checks stock on a regular basis to ensure that stock is maintained in accordance with FDA requirements.
  • Participates in the training of pharmacy technicians and other nonprofessional personnel to assist in the drug distribution process and ensure timely delivery of medications.
  • Under direct supervision advises patients family and health care professionals on use of various
  • medications including dosage side effects and composition.
  • Under direct supervision compounds, labels and packages medications and pharmaceuticals.
  • Under direct supervision ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances.
  • Under direct supervision prepares clear and concise clinical briefs for use by nurses medical staff and pharmacy.
  • Upon demonstration of competency in research and appropriate patient care consults with and advises medical staff personnel regarding utilization of drugs and pharmaceuticals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Pharm.D. student actively enrolled in a program from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy. required

Experience

  • 6 months experience in a hospital setting required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified by a national pharmacy technician certification program required and Registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Maryland required or
  • Holds a Pharmacy Student Intern license in the State of Maryland and
  • PharmD student actively in a program from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy required

This position has a hiring range of

USD $18.00 - USD $29.74 /Hr.
