General Summary of Position
Under the direction of the AVP Infection Prevention and in partnership with ambulatory Quality and Safety leaders the Director of Ambulatory Infection Prevention leads the development and implementation of a system-wide ambulatory Infection Prevention strategy. Ther role will oversee and implement MedStar Health's infection prevention and control program for outpatient settings focusing on preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) through strategies policies surveillance and education. Key responsibilities include leading infection prevention efforts conducting risk assessments ensuring regulatory compliance managing outbreaks performing data analysis and reporting and collaborating with clinical teams and executive leadership.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Strategically plans directs and administers the organization's infection prevention and control program creating annual plans polices and procedures for ambulatory settings.
  • Facilitates and conducts ongoing surveillance and analysis of infection rates in ambulatory care to identify trends evaluate program effectiveness and identify potential risks
  • Strategically leads the assessment of risk for infection in ambulatory environments and develops strategies to prevent and control outbreaks including managing known or suspected infections
  • Develops and delivers education and training programs for all staff members in ambulatory settings on infection prevention principles and practices
  • Ensures the infection prevention program complies with all relevant federal state and local regulations and policies.
  • Facilitates gathering and analysis and reports on infection prevention data to relevant committees and other leadership using results to drive quality improvement initiatives.
  • Leads clinical teams ambulatory performance improvement programs and advises executive leadership to integrate infection prevention best practices into ambulatory operations.
  • Coordinates development and periodic reporting of identified Infection Prevention metrics and outcome measures as prioritized by the annual Ambulatory Risk Assessment and Plans. Works with System Data and Analytics to obtain validate and analyze the infection prevention data as needed.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary infection prevention teams within the Ambulatory setting.
  • Develop MedStar leaders in infection prevention practices continuous clinical and operational improvement processes and methods. Acts as a consultant/coach to leadership as necessary. Develops tools to enhance the effectiveness of MedStar leaders as appropriate to assigned projects. Develops and maintains good working relationships with other MedStar employees in various roles throughout the system. Assists in mentoring new infection preventionists. Organizes and/or attends meetings related to Ambulatory Infection Prevention.
  • In conjunction with System and site Quality/and Safety and Infection prevention leadership develops maintains and deploys an Infection Prevention PI strategy including appropriate prioritization of initiatives and related communication. Identifies variances and potential improvement opportunities in clinical and operational processes outcomes and cost data.
  • Initiates exhibits and supports excellent two-way communication and working relationships with all audiences to foster ongoing information exchange during the development and implementation of clinical and operational initiatives.
  • Manages improvement projects as assigned to meet established goals. Effectively and efficiently influences processes outcomes and behaviors to complete assignments in a timely and quality-focused manner.
  • Plans work to be done in concert with the needs of MedStar leadership. Develops maintains and revises work plans as appropriate to the work. Monitors outcomes. Integrates work with all other departmental initiatives and revises as necessary. Anticipates needs of customers and addresses these appropriately.
  • Prepares analyzes and presents detailed clinical financial and other information to support the work. Performs relevant benchmarking as appropriate to the work. Develops presentations of the information that inform audiences in a clear accurate manner. Delivers written and oral presentations in a professional persuasive manner
  • Responsible for the quality control of individual work and reviewing the work of others as appropriate.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department hospitals and MedStar in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in meetings on committees and represents the department and system in community and industry outreach efforts. Enhances professional growth and development and enriches personal knowledge and skill through participation in educational programs and professional affiliations.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • Bachelor's degree Nursing Medical Technology Microbiology or other related Science Fired required or
  • Master's degree Nursing Medical Technology Microbiology or other related Science Fired preferred

Experience

  • 5-7 years Experience in healthcare Infection Prevention leadership and/or consulting including leading and conducting staff education on related topics obtaining and interpreting Infection Prevention metrics and developing Infection Prevention policy and strategy; thorough knowledge concerning current infection control practice required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure In Maryland or Washington D.C. required
  • CIC - Certified in Infection Control required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to facilitate a team to defined outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $142,064.00 - USD $287,996.00 /Yr.
