About the Job

General Summary of Position
Evaluates drugs prescribed by physicians for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interaction and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance company and handles DUR rejects pre-authorizations etc.; performs final check on all prescriptions ensuring accurate input labeling and dispensing; Ensures safe and effective use of specialty medications by reviewing and conducting medication reconciliation and providing patient education to improve adherence well-being and outcomes. Documents patient care management activities according to the specialty pharmacy accreditation standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Acts as the pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager: directing workflow patterns ensuring daily responsibilities are carried out by assigned staff resolving issues requiring management intervention and performing routine oversight of pharmacy operations.
  • Performs final check on all completed prescriptions verifying the accuracy of input labeling and dispensing; makes corrections as necessary; maintains refill and narcotic logs and prescription files.
  • Processes prescriptions in the dispensing system; evaluates prescriptions for appropriateness of dose therapeutic efficacy allergy drug interactions and contraindications; handles DURs rejects preauthorizations etc.; communicates with third party payors to troubleshoot issues relating to coverage reimbursement etc.
  • Documents all patient care activities according to the accreditation and payer specifications
  • Obtains patient and drug-related information and conducts initial assessment medication reconciliation patient care planning patient education appropriate documentation and follow-up.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy required

Experience

  • 1-2 years Pharmacy experience in retail mail order or specialty pharmacy required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RPH - Registered Pharmacist Current Maryland Pharmacist license including Immunization/Vaccination Certification and registration with the board of pharmacy in that state required 
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required 
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit
  • Willingness to obtain other state licensure as business needs require
  • Specialty Pharmacy Board Certification preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and Strong customer service skills required.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Must be highly productive organized' and comfortable engaging with patients family members and healthcare providers.
  • Adept at building trust and relationships.

This position has a hiring range of

USD $120,702.00 - USD $238,222.00 /Yr.
