Job Summary:  
 

MedStar Health is looking for a Carpenter to join our team at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital!  

 

As a Carpenter, you will construct, repair, and maintain wooden structures such as furniture, equipment, locks, doors, partitions, and other parts of hospital building using hand and power tools. Performs construction, renovation, and other types of carpentry work. Painting facilities and equipment. Assists with general maintenance activities as directed.

Primary Duties:  

 

  • Constructs and maintains building woodwork such as bins, counters, benches, stairs, and doors. Cuts and shapes parts of furniture. Constructs and maintains lock fitting sequence throughout the facility. Including laying out hardware and keying sequence for new construction to meet all applicable codes. 

 

  • May maintain all door related hardware including closures, hinges, and all other Life Safety Devices. Performs annual inspections of all doors within the facility to ensure compliance with all applicable codes. Operates woodworking machines such as band saw, mortiser, drill press, power saw, joiner, shaper, and wood lathe. Operates power hand tools and stationery tools. 

 

  • Cabinetry and shelving, including replacement of broken or missing hardware; mixing and applying paints and other coatings; patching wall surfaces with drywall compound, masonry, and Firestop; installing ceiling and floor tile; adjusting doors, etc. Also responsible for fire stopping penetrations in fire related structures. Performs shop fabrication of custom cabinetry, shelving, and built-in furnishings. Reads and works from schematic drawings, sketches, and specifications to determine procedures for construction or repair. Must be able to transfer dimensions to materials for fabrication and design. 

 

  • Performs lock related duties including but not limited to: Controlling of master key, pinning of locks, repair of lock system, cutting keys, maintaining records of key distribution and repairs articles of furniture such as cabinets, chairs, storage fixtures, and office equipment. Performs renovation and minor construction work such as removing and installing walls, installing doors and fixtures, applying wall and floor finishes, and fabricating metal stud assemblies. 

 

  • Performs shop fabrication and repair of custom cabinetry, shelving, and built-in furnishings. Reads and works from blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine procedure for constructing cabinets, furniture, and other wooden articles and for performing renovations. Performs design, layout, and fabrication of woodwork. Measures and marks in prescribed dimensions to perform tasks or to make layouts from blueprints. 

 

Qualifications:  

 

  • High School Diploma or GED. 

  • Vocational school graduation. 

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program. 

  • 4 years related experience in construction and/or finished carpentry. 

  • Broad knowledge of locksmiths and hardware that is affiliated with hospital maintenance and construction. 

This position has a hiring range of $23.19 - $40.61
