General Summary of Position
The Director of Talent & Leadership Development is a strategic leader responsible for building and executing system-wide strategies that strengthen leadership capability, accelerate talent readiness, and drive performance across all levels of the organization. This role leads succession planning, leadership pipeline development, executive coaching, and performance management, while enabling scalable, tech-driven career development solutions. The Director TLD brings deep expertise in leadership development and a passion for cultivating future-ready leaders in a dynamic, high-growth environment.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing and engaged team of Organizational Effectiveness consultants, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Set clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with enterprise talent and organizational strategies.
  • Monitor team workload and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery of high-impact solutions across the enterprise.
  • Design and lead system-wide succession planning processes to identify, assess, and develop future leaders for critical roles.
  • Build and maintain robust leadership pipelines across functions and levels, with a focus on diversity, readiness, and internal mobility.
  • Partner with senior leaders and HR Business Partners to ensure succession plans are actionable and aligned with business strategy.
  • Design and implement scalable career development frameworks, tools, and resources that empower associates to own their growth.
  • Ensure effective delivery of high-impact leadership development programs for emerging, mid-level, and senior leaders.
  • Lead accelerated development initiatives for high-potential talent, including stretch assignments, mentoring, and cohort-based learning.
  • Evaluate leadership development effectiveness using data and feedback to continuously improve learning outcomes.
  • Oversee executive coaching engagements, integrate coaching into broader leadership development and succession strategies, for senior leaders, in partnership with external vendors supporting effective coach matching, and ROI tracking.
  • Lead a continued evolution of performance management practices to drive alignment with MedStar Health strategy, accountability, and continuous feedback.
  • Partner with HR and business leaders to ensure performance processes are fair, transparent, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Use performance data to inform talent decisions and development priorities.
  • Partner with HRT and analytics/reporting teams to effectively evolve and enable digital platforms that support talent reviews, development planning, and internal mobility.
  • Leverage talent data and insights related to trends in talent movement and readiness.
  • Lead end-to-end project management for OE initiatives, including scoping, planning, stakeholder alignment, execution, and evaluation.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure alignment with broader HR and business priorities
  • Monitor program performance and risks, proactively resolving issues and escalating as needed

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree In organizational development, Human Resources, Business, or related field required
    • Master's degree or MBA preferred
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience

    Experience

    • 10+ years Of progressive experience in talent management, leadership development, or organizational development required
    • 10+ years Proven success designing and implementing system-wide leadership and succession strategies required
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Strong facilitation, coaching, and consulting skills with executive-level stakeholders
    • Experience with talent management platforms (e.g., Workday, SuccessFactors, Degreed, Fuel50)
    • Experience in large, matrixed, or global organizations
    • Experience and certification with executive assessments and executive coaching certification (e.g., ICF, Hogan, Korn Ferry)
    • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
    • Experience in consulting with senior leaders to interpret engagement data and drive action planning
    • Strong understanding of organizational behavior, employee experience, and culture dynamics


    This position has a hiring range of $131,497 - $256,630
