General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Part-Time (20 hrs/week) Emergency Management Specialist to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center!
20/hrs (2-3 days/week), expected to be available in the event of emergency (natural or manmade)
The Emergency Management Specialist is Responsible for the Coordination of disaster preparedness and response activities for MedStar Montgomery Medical Center (MMMC) to ensure the hospital's readiness to respond to natural (ie: hurricane, flood), man-made (ie: terrorism, civil unrest) or technological (ie: nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills) disasters. As well as keeping MMMC in a constant state of compliance with guidelines for Emergency Management as spelled out in the EM chapter of the Joint Commission (TJC) and all CMS Emergency Preparedness requirements.

Primary Duties:
- Manages MMMC's emergency preparedness program as Chair of the Emergency Management Team, overseeing disaster planning, response procedures, training, and compliance with TJC and CMS standards.
- Develops, updates, and reviews the Emergency Operations Plan and annexes; conducts annual Hazard and Vulnerability Assessments (HVA); ensures alignment with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Designs and delivers training for associates on incident command, codes, HAZMAT, and adverse event scenarios (e.g., severe weather, terrorism). Coordinates and executes required drills, full-scale exercises, and after-action reports.
- Partners with local, regional, and corporate emergency management agencies and coalitions; ensures communication readiness through regular testing of hospital command center and communication systems.
- Maintains emergency equipment, hazardous materials inventories, and SDS compliance; manages preparedness grants and funding initiatives; actively participates in hospital committees and continuous readiness activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5-7 years of work experience
License/Certifications:
- (CHEM) Certified Hospital Emergency Coordinator – CS 100, ICS 200, ICs 300, ICS 400, ICS 700, ICS 800, MGT 314, Hazmat Training within 90 days Required
