Job Summary:

As an Environmental Assistant, you will maintain prescribed standards of cleanliness for assigned areas, using germicidal solutions, and following prescribed procedures and posted work schedules.

Primary Duties: 

  • Cleans all assigned areas in accordance with standards of cleanliness and highest quality of cleaning excellence. Consistently gathers all trash. Polishes assigned floor surface areas by operating electric washing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing equipment, making manual adjustments to attain optimal results. Performs other duties as required, such as cleaning light fixtures, wall vents, and moving furniture. Maintains cleaning equipment. Deposits are refused in specified collection areas and/or incinerator.  

  • Makes timely rounds and always follows universal precautions. Performs high dusting and low dusting of assigned areas. Uses 7 step cleaning process for all patient areas. This includes vacuuming, washing, sweeping, mopping of restrooms, beds, furniture, and open areas. Cleans specialized areas such as isolation and surgical areas to the highest standards according to sterilization procedures. Observes safety and infection control precautions in cleaning of assigned areas. Performs discharge cleaning for all patient discharges, following department procedure and policies. 

  • Provides services to patients and families as needed. Introduces self to patients and families. Checks in with patients before leaving the room. Answers and responds to patient requests. Greets patients and families arriving on the unit. Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients, family members, physicians and others who may need help in finding their way.  

  • Participates with supervisors in identifying learning needs. When learning needs are identified, participates in training and development activities. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Meets all mandatory obligations.  

  • Works effectively within and between departments. Participates in departmental projects. Participates in interdepartmental activities when asked. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. 

  • 1-2 years' experience preferred. 

  • Medical, hospital or institutional experience preferred.
