Description
MedStar Medical Group Radiology is seeking a Lead Radiologist Assistant to join our growing practice at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center (MSMHC). The successful candidate will work with Attending Radiologists, Medical Directors and Radiologist Assistant colleagues to coordinate daily operations and ensuring the highest level of clinical practice, quality care, and professional satisfaction are achieved by the service line. The Primary duties and responsibilities will include:
· Functions as a clinical expert and resource to staff radiologist assistants.
· Implements and manage process improvement initiatives and education programs for the radiologist assistant (RA) service.
· Maintains an active clinical practice in collaboration with a radiologist. Follows established standards, procedures and practices.
· Performs various procedures (e.g., barium swallow, small bowel follow through, barium enema, thyroid biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, spinal taps, and line placement), follow-up patient evaluations, and communicates findings to the Radiologist.
· Conducts initial and ongoing assessment of patients' medical and physical status, periodic evaluation, and progress notes, records pertinent data in the medical record as appropriate.
· Implements radiologist-directed treatment plans and conducts patient/guardian education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease processes, and discharge planning.
· Explains procedure, potential outcomes, potential complications to the patient prior to the exam.
· Evaluates medical images, reviews preliminary reports and images with a supervising Radiologist, and prepares technical reports that will be reviewed and signed off by the supervising radiologist.
· Participates in patient management, including acquisition of additional imaging procedures, following review with the supervising radiologist.
· Provides education to RA group through didactic sessions, one-on-one mentoring, and simulation events when required to support practice changes and new procedures/services/technologies.
· Maintains practice ethics and values congruent with the ARRT Code of Ethics, as well as adhering to national, state, institutional and/or departmental standards, policies, and procedures regarding the standards of care for patients.
