General Summary of Position
Administers the overall management of the Oncology Clinical Information Center. Ensures that the oncology data activities meet local and national agency standards. Plans, defines, evaluates, and implements techniques for collection and retention of oncology patient data. Implements and maintains long and short-term policies and procedures.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administers, organizes, directs, and implements activities relative to Cancer Registry.
  • Works with Oncology leadership and Cancer Committee chair to assess and maintain compliance with all ACOS accreditation standards. Implements and maintains long and short-term policies and procedures to ensure compliance and continued approval status by ACOS Commission on Cancer. Manages the performance improvement program related to this approval.
  • Plans, develops, and implements oncology data retrieval systems. Serves as point person for development of automated services for the Cancer Institute registry. Plans and develops techniques for collection and retention of oncology patient data. Implements and maintains long and short-term policies and procedures. Works with appropriate staff to create data retrieval mechanisms for the electronic medical record.
  • Ensures the completeness, standardization, integrity, and timeliness of data collection on all cancer cases seen in MedStar's Community Oncology sites. Monitors the quality of outcome data and the adherence to registry policies, procedures, and national standards. Identifies problem areas and enacts changes, such as staff education, procedure changes, etc, to improve the quality of data.
  • Responsible for the compilation and analysis of oncology data as requested by the medical and administrative staff to assist in clinical and outcomes research, strategic planning, program development, and end-results/outcomes studies.
  • Participates in strategic planning in the oncology program and in the implementation of hospital and cancer program goals and objectives.
  • Determines staffing needs and assigns tasks as necessary for the smooth and efficient functioning of the WCI Information Management departments; ensures continuing education is provided to the staff and implements educational sessions as necessary; interviews, hires, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates subordinates.
  • Prepares operating and capital budgets to meet organizational goals and objectives, approves department expenses and monitors monthly budget reports.
  • Represents MedStar Health's Community Oncology sites at local and national functions related to oncology data management.
  • Reviews current reporting tools, documents and processes and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Selects, trains, and orients assigned tumor registry staff. Works with talent acquisition on recruitment of new team members. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Serves as a liaison with Corporate departments such as planning, decision support/business analytics, finance, and others to improve regional and service line reports.
  • Streamlines and manages intercompany budget requests.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives, as needed.
  • Supports tracking of charge entry and missing charge, patient no shows and practice related metrics, as needed. Tracks regular volume reports and develops reporting metrics.
  • Supports tumor registry by learning registry software to monitor data quality, prepare routine and ad hoc report requests, and perform data submission as appropriate.
  • Under the direction of the Vice President Cancer Service Line, responsible for the management of the service line budgets, financial outcomes, and resource use in collaboration with the administrative team.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Records Administration or directly related discipline required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience. required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • TR - Tumor Registrar certification required

    This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
