General Summary of Position
MedStar Health is looking for a Neuropsychology Post Doctorate Fellow to join our team at MedStar National Rehabilitation Network!
This fellowship program is two years long and provides advanced training in Neuropsychological assessment, consultation, and treatment of adult patients with a range of neurologic illnesses, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, aneurysms, brain tumors, Dementia, and other systemic conditions. This incumbent will be given the opportunities to receive training with other rehabilitation populations. Training opportunities involve inpatient and outpatient settings, full and specialized neuropsychological evaluations, treatment, and consultation to physicians and other disciplines. Diverse didactic experiences are offered as described in the fellowship program materials. MedStar National Rehabilitation Network post-doctoral fellows are encouraged to become involved in research during their tenure.

Primary Duties:
Become independent and competent in neuropsychological test selection, administration, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and provision of feedback. The general neuropsychology outpatient clinic takes referrals from neurologists, psychiatrists, and other medical specialists. Patients presenting to this service represent a broad range of diagnoses. Provide treatment to individuals with TBI, stroke, and other brain illnesses. Consultants to physicians and other medical professionals. Participate in the Transitions Neurorehabilitation Day Treatment Program, providing integrated and comprehensive post-acute rehabilitation services for patients with various brain injuries and strokes. The focus of the program is to assist patients in returning to the community and independent functioning. Responsible for initial intake, cognitive assessment, treatment, and behavioral modification plans.
Provide clinical service to the inpatient brain injury and stroke neurorehabilitation units on the 3rd floor. This service includes initial consultation, cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial assessment, and treatment. Become competent and independent in providing treatment to individuals with TBI, stroke. May concentrate in a particular clinical area through participation in specialty rotations, including spinal cord injury, pediatric patients, orthopedic patients, transplant patients, etc. Specialty rotations are not guaranteed as part of the fellowship and will be negotiated on an individual basis.
At least two hours of face-to-face supervision each week, one of which may be done in a group format. Clinical training will be overseen by an ABPP board- certified neuropsychologist. At least one hour of direct supervision from a primary supervisor who will oversee their primary clinical inpatient and outpatient activities. At least one hour of direct supervision from the supervisor overseeing the clinical work in the specialty rotation.
Weekly video-teleconference (VTC) seminar in collaboration with other programs such as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC). Neuroanatomy and clinical issues seminar with neuropsychology and hospital faculty. This seminar will alternate between topics in neuroanatomy, presentations of clinical disorders, relevant rehabilitation issues, and journal club. Brain cutting seminars are often available through our training affiliation with the D.C (District of Columbia) VA Hospital. Clinical neurology rounds and resident training with medical director of the Brain Injury Program.
Participate in research and contribute to/generate a project for presentation at a professional conference, submission to a peer-reviewed journal, or presentation at the annual MedStar research symposium. Encouraged to become involved in one of the existing areas of research or develop their own, resources permitting.
Qualifications:
Doctorate in Psychology from an accredited program.
APA (American Psychological Association) or CPA accredited clinical psychology internship.
Training and clinical experience in neuropsychology during graduate school and internship.
Expected to apply for and take the national licensing exam (EPPP), pursue licensure, and complete the application for board certification by the end of the fellowship.
