As an Certified Hand Therapist, you will provide an advanced level of technical skills, evaluating and treating patients within a particular specialty. Coordinates the daily operations of a particular specialty, including consultation, teaching, quality assurance, staff mentoring, and scheduling of patients. Primary Duties: 

  • Provides direct OT evaluations and re-evaluations, including assessment of prior and current level of functioning, setting appropriate goals and making appropriate discharge recommendations in accordance with standards of practice. Provides direct OT treatments according to standards of practice, including patient and family education, progression of treatment plan and implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions.  

  • Utilizes appropriate documentation forms and abides by PM&R's documentation standards. Collaborates with physicians, patients, family, and other members of the health care team relative to patient treatment and progress and other affiliated agencies. Actively participates in meetings, in-services, and rounds regarding patient care and/or departmental items.  

  • Supervises COTAs and rehabilitation technicians. Instructs OT interns and other students as indicated. Coordinates and prioritizes own schedule in relation to demands of patient treatment and other departmental responsibilities.  

  • Coordinates program development, policy, procedures, protocols, and quality improvement for their area of specialty. Participates in at least 40 contact hours of continuing education programs or other opportunities for learning for continued professional competency. Provides at least four yearly in-services to staff and/or community for continuing education purposes.  

  • Serves as a clinical liaison, preceptor, and mentor for less experienced staff in given specialty area. Coordinates equipment supplies and schedule for specialty areas. Adheres to all Department of Health and Joint Commission regulations regarding the physical environment and patient care. Demonstrates participation in at least one non-clinical activity, such as committees, task forces, etc. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in occupational therapy.  

  • Current certification in area of specialty Required or 240 hours of education in area of specialty.  

  • Hand Therapist Certification.

  • Minimum 6 years of clinical practice experience and Specialized training in a specialty area as defined in the education requirements. 

  • Current D.C. license or qualified candidate for D.C. and Health Services\OT - Occupational Therapist – Registered License as an Occupational Therapist. 

  • BLS (Basic Life Support).
