General Summary of Position
The Biocontainment Program at MedStar Health is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented undergraduate or graduate administrative intern to support the work of the Medical Director and the BCU program's operational needs. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in healthcare administration, emergency preparedness, and the operations of a nationally recognized, Tier-1 Special Pathogen program, providing essential insights into the intersection of medical leadership and emergency preparedness including exposure to local, state, and federal initiatives around special pathogen preparedness.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and taking minutes.
  • Support administrative functions such as document preparation, record-keeping, and data entry.
  • Assist in drafting reports, presentations, and other materials as needed.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of policies and procedures under the direction of the Medical Director.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on best practices related to biocontainment and response.
  • Assist with ongoing research efforts as it pertains to the BCU
  • Support logistical planning for training sessions, exercises, and workshops.
  • Help manage communications, including responding to inquiries and drafting correspondence
  • Assist with communicating with other team members on behalf of the Medical Director related to current and future initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the Biocontainment Program

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Public Health, Health Administration, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Emergency Management, or a related field. required
    • Master's degree Public Health, Health Administration, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Emergency Management, or a related field. preferred
    • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

    Experience

    • Less than 1 year In administrative or research setting required and
    • Familiarity with healthcare operations, regulatory requirements or infection control protocols. preferred and
    • Prior experience supporting senior leadership in an academic, medical or research environment. preferred
    • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

    • Microsoft Office


    This position has a hiring range of $18 - $28.73
