General Summary of Position
Outpatient Nurse Navigator, Registered Nurse (RN) Neurological Surgery
Join our growing team of specialists in the Department of Neurology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center! As a registered nurse on our team, you'll work alongside more than 13 neurologists and experienced staff that specialize in a broad range of neurological disorders, including: Electroencephalogram (EEG), EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies, and Epilepsy Monitoring.
Currently our team would like to identify a registered nurse with Neuroscience, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pain Management, Brain Tumor, and /or Orthopedic experience to join the team as a Nurse Navigator. The RN Navigator will be responsible for the coordination of patient care across the continuum of care for all patients. She/he will also be largely responsible for educating and providing information that supports patient treatment plans. The Navigator for this role will support a 60% Neurosurgery, 30% Neurology, and 10% Brain Tumor caseloads. This would include acting as the patient advocate for the patients and families throughout care.
Please note, our outpatient facility typically operates M-F, 8am-5pm with some scheduling flexibility based on patient and staff scheduling.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in nursing required and
- Master's degree of Science in Nursing preferred and
- CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. required
Experience
- 3-4 years Clinical nursing experience. must have clinical maturity and experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team of health care providers. required
- Experience with surgical oncology, inpatient/outpatient/community oncology services preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensure as a RN in the District of Columbia. required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Position requires a high level of advocacy and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to multitask and organize advocacy and support for a large and varied group of cancer patients and their families.
- Knowledge of community resources is helpful.
This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $157,289
