Job Summary:

MedStar Health is looking for a Senior Director Clinical Support Services to join our team at Southern Maryland Hospital Center! The ideal candidate will show professional competency as a general practitioner of Occupational Therapy, independent use of varied evaluation and treatment approaches, and excellent verbal and oral communication skills.

As a Senior Director Clinical Support Services, you will be a member of the hospital leadership/management team and will be responsible for one or more defined areas of clinical support departments. Provides leadership and expertise to advance the provision of quality healthcare delivery and customer service in defined area(s). Creates and facilitates a learning environment and an atmosphere of participative management within the framework of shared governance and shared decision making. Contributes to the Hospital's annual goals and objectives and is accountable for the execution, evaluation, and attainment of these goals within defined areas of responsibility. Promotes a culture in practice to assure the Hospital mission of a Patient and Family Centered Care environment. Works in collaboration with the Vice President Operations as directed. Manages budgets, productivity and works to enhance associate engagement and job satisfaction.

Primary Duties:

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations. Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget. Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.

  • Accountable for services through which direct care and support services are provided, including, day-to-day department operations, staff competencies, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians, clinical & nursing leadership staff to: develop patient care protocols, policies, procedures, and standards of care, determine patient care equipment and facility needs, determine needed patient care services, promote interdisciplinary coordination of patient care, and create and communicate a shared vision. Creates a professional atmosphere and an environment of coaching and development that supports shared governance/shared decision making and an elevated level of employee engagement/satisfaction as evidenced by outcomes data. 

  • Establishes and allocates staff resources in accordance with regulatory guidelines utilizing national/regional databases and budgetary indicators as primary benchmarks. Establishes mechanisms that provide for the early identification and mentoring of staff with leadership potential. Identifies succession planning issues and establishes action plans.

  • Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Participates in formulation, monitoring and variance tracking of annual budget. Synthesizes activities like assimilation of raw data, compilation of statistics and control of fiscal and production activities for budgetary analysis and development.

  • Promotes public image of excellence through marketing and promotion through professional communication, presentations, and/or publication and membership on local/regional or national committees. Responsible for participating in strategic planning, marketing, and execution of divisional activities. Participates in the overall strategic planning, and implementation of hospital goals, objectives and mission. Serves as agent of change, assisting in understanding the importance, necessity, impact, and process of change management.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree Business Management or other Healthcare related discipline.

  • Master's degree Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or equivalent.

  • 8-10 years progressively more responsible management experience.

  • 6 years in an upper-level management/administrative healthcare position.
