The MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare is excited to announce an opening for a Senior Research Scientist! Join our talented, multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing patient safety, health system innovation, and clinical effectiveness through cutting-edge research.
We're seeking a mid-to-senior level professional as part of our research program that will help expand our research areas and deepen our impact. Ideal candidates will have a proven track record of securing external grant/contract funding, an established area of expertise with national recognition, and a passion for mentoring junior team members.
The Senior Research Scientist develops research strategies for the growth and implementation of research programs in their specialty across MedStar Health using a commanding knowledge of research methods and techniques. This is accomplished by contributing to the advancement of health of our patients while impacting all aspects in our tripartite mission of education, research and clinical care. Designs and directs research studies as a Principal Investigator on multiple studies in their specialty, including pursuing an independent program of research, partnering with MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) investigators for research proposals, obtaining external financial support for research (sponsored research) to ensure long term sustainability, closely coordinating and aligning the research activities with the clinical activities within MedStar Health, and participating in activities aimed at increasing the awareness of their research throughout the system. Activities may cross multiple sites, as well as involve investigators at different locations and within different disciplines. Responsible for deliverables and deadlines on multiple research projects. This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Education
- PhD, DrPH, MD or equivalent terminal degree required, or Master's degree with equivalent experience in a related field required
- 2 years experience in presentation of scientific information with excellent oral and written communication skills required
- 2 years of experience contributing scientifically and collaboratively as part of a grant-funded research team required
- 2 years experience conducting research in a healthcare setting (hospital, ambulatory care environment, outpatient clinics) preferred
- Strong analytical skills and background in quantitative and/or qualitative methods.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
