The Nurse Extern program gives senior nursing students the opportunity to work under the direction of an RN in the care and well-being of patients.
In this exciting program, Nurse Externs are paired with an experienced RN to provide mentorship, hands-on learning and assimilation into the practice environment. Your assigned RN will function as a mentor, helping you develop the critical thinking skills you need to increase your confidence as a nursing professional. These nurse extern programs offer nursing students a transitional opportunity to prepare for working in a clinical environment. In addition, you work with other members of the care team and will be supported by a Nurse Educator to ensure your learning needs are met as you gain the best clinical experience possible. The extern program encompasses day, night, and weekend shifts, based on the mentor's schedule.
Upon evaluation, the Nurse Extern position may lead into an offer for a Graduate Nurse/Clinical Nurse position, which will align with successful completion of your nursing program.

Program Start Date: June 2, 2025
Required Commitment: The summer cohort will be a 10-week long session. Student Nurse Externs are scheduled for 36 hours per week (rotating weekends and holidays).
Pay: $20.12 per hour
Qualifications
- Active enrollment in an accredited RN program; Must be graduating in December 2025 or May 2026. Official transcripts will be required at time of hire and at the end of each semester to validate active enrollment.
- No clinical experience outside of nursing school is required.
- CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing is required in order to move forward into the interview stage; BLS (CPR for Healthcare Providers) certification.
This position has a hiring range of $20.12 - $20.12
