General Summary of Position
As a key member of senior leadership, the Vice President of Patient Care & Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic direction, executive level leadership, planning, organization and general management for all aspects of patient care, ensuring integration of services and compliance with long range objectives and strategies, including the provision of excellent quality services and the practice of sound business practices. This position is responsible for nursing practice, and overall administrative, operational, and financial functions of nursing and clinical areas. This includes proactively identifying progressive approaches to deliver patient care and enhance overall patient satisfaction, and the culture of nursing and clinical services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Approves department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations. 2. Develops and articulates the vision and strategic direction for the practice of nursing; ensures integration of services and compliance with long range objectives and strategies, including the provision of excellent quality services and sound business practices. 3. Directs the development of strategies to promote the recruitment, retention and recognition of excellence in nursing. Works collaboratively with human resources to ensure that policies, compensation, and employee relation strategies support a safe and effective working environment to attract and retain qualified nursing and nursing support staff. 4. Promotes and facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and coordination of care among disciplines and ensures that patient care delivery models and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current professional standards and with the mission, vision and values of MedStar Health. 5. Works collaboratively with other clinical disciplines, physicians, departments, and leaders to ensure that clinical quality, safety and patient experience improvement programs are coordinated. 6. Directs the determination of fiscal requirements of assigned departments and reviews budgetary recommendations; monitors the expenditure of budgeted funds. Coordinates, through accountable management personnel, the establishment of major schedules, task assignments and allocation of workforce and equipment to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies. 7. Provides leadership in the establishment of credentialing privileges and policies for nurses; ensure compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of The Joint Commission, the State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Board of Nursing and all other applicable regulatory agencies. 8. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from accredited school in nursing and master's degree in nursing, Health Care or Business Administration is required.
10+ years In nursing experience is required with at least seven (7) years of progressive nursing leadership experience.
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
This position has a hiring range of $231,500 - $313,100
