General Summary of Position
Independently directs all aspects of the Volunteer Services program: design and development; implementation, administration and supervision; evaluation and promotion of growth. Provides program leadership, creates new programs and reinvigorates past programs based on need of department and hospital. Manages full application lifecycle and volunteer placement. Interfaces with volunteers and volunteer supervisors to ensure beneficial and positive experiences. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains and continually improves application process consisting of updating Webpage, recruitment, application review, formal interview, health clearance, background check/drug test, selection, placement and Volunteer Orientation. Flexible in meeting needs of applicants within reason.
  • Prepares volunteers to effectively perform their duties in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Designs and delivers Volunteer Orientation monthly. Actively introduces and ensures training on Environmental, Health and Safety, HIPAA, Compliance, customer service skills, prohibited actions and JCAHO. Develops and updates orientation guide.
  • Communicates with department heads and managers to determine and interpret volunteer needs. Trains managers to effectively utilize and supervise volunteers. Places volunteers in assignments that will best fit their skills and be most beneficial to the hospital.
  • Serves as a spokesperson to hospital by generating awareness, excitement and recognition of volunteerism hospital-wide; encourages new departments/units to host volunteers.
  • Maintains a level of productivity that supports efficient, high quality, cost-effective functioning of the department. Performs all administrative functions within the office of Volunteer Services. Develops and maintains accurate databases detailing all pertinent information of the volunteer workforce, prospective volunteers and placements including job description. Provides statistical reports as required.
  • Assesses and analyses the design, coordination and scheduling of Volunteer Services to ensure relevance and timeliness. Takes action to establish and maintain effective program. Establishes short- and long-range goals and objectives, modifies program appropriately.
  • Promotes and advocates a healthy environment for volunteers. Motivates, supports and recognizes volunteers and their achievements by building trust and understanding.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with resources throughout GUH. Establishes outside contacts at high schools, universities and community groups. Promotes best practices among volunteer programs throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
  • Develops a marketing strategy for recruitment of volunteers, makes site visits and creates and updates informational material that communicates volunteer opportunities.
  • Establishes and maintains programs and events based on need such as summer volunteer program for high school and college students, special programs and mailings for current volunteers as well as collaborating with other departments for specific hospital events.
  • Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Week by designing and managing an appreciation event (or events) that recognize volunteers based on performance excellence and hours served.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree Business Administration or related field required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years in a health care setting with progressively increasing levels of responsibility required


    This position has a hiring range of $58,656 - $98,384
