General Summary of Position

MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is in search of a key member of the executive leadership team. The Vice President of Operations will provide leadership by planning, directing, coordinating, providing and improving the professional/support services programs of MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center in response to community, associate, volunteer, physician and patient needs. These services and programs include but are not limited to Imaging, Cardiology and Neurology; Laboratory; Rehabilitation Medicine; Pharmacy; Environmental Services/Laundry, Nutrition and Facilities. This position serves as a key decision maker on the Administrative Team of the Hospital and represents the office of the President in committees and programs within the scope of the position's areas of focus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensures compliance with system, hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations.
  • Actively participates with the System, Board of Directors, Medical Staff and Hospital Leadership in the development of hospital-wide strategic and operations plans, programs, policies and procedures, and performance standards.
  • Aligns goals, objectives and action plans for assigned departments and programs with the overall hospital strategic and operational plans.
  • Monitors actual department/program performance in the following areas: patient care, patient safety, patient satisfaction/perception; performance improvement; operational excellence; associate performance; associate engagement; attendance, retention and recruitment; staffing; staff development; leadership development; physician relations and satisfaction; interdepartmental relations; and causes adjustments as needed to meet expectations.
  • Approves budgets for assigned departments/cost centers; monitors and causes adjustments as needed to meet budget requirements.
  • Evaluates changing legal, regulatory, accrediting and technical developments, and assures compliance with requirements.
  • Utilizes CQI, Lean, Six Sigma techniques effectively to positively impact change.
  • Negotiates contracts, tracks compliance, and evaluates performance of contracts.
  • Demonstrates professional knowledge and advancement through ongoing continuing education and affiliations.
  • Serves as liaison with the broader community, as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Represents the Hospital in the President's absence or as requested, serves as the Executive Lead or member on assigned committees, and takes rotation as Administrator On Call.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in health care, business or administration required.
  • 5-7 years minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in acute care hospital management required.

This position has a hiring range of $226,100 - $305,900
