Overview:

 

The Manager of Mercy Coding Services will be responsible for managing, coordinating, evaluating coding and/or compliance and provider education operations. Manager will provide direct oversight of Coding Supervisors and/or Coding and Charging Supervisors. This position also supports the Director of Mercy Coding Services in strategic planning for future state needs and growth. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or A.S. from an accredited Health Information Technology program.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of coding experience in ICD-10 CM diagnosis/procedure coding and/or HCPCS/CPT procedure coding in an acute care or professional services setting. Working knowledge of MS-DRG, APC, or MPFS/RVU payment methodology.
  • Certifications: Registered health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC or CPC-H), or Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC)Other: Advanced working knowledge and a high level of experience with the ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems, MSDRG's, APC's, MPFS/RVUs, POA's, HACs; dependent upon whether an Inpatient, Outpatient, or Professional Services coder. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and/or pharmacology. Excellent written/oral communication skills as well as the ability to multi-task. Ability to travel as needed, up to 30%. Ability to work independently.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited Health Information Management program, or associated Healthcare discipline.
  • Preferred Experience: 8 or more years of recent coding or consulting experience in inpatient/outpatient acute care hospital setting or professional services.
  • Preferred Other: Management/supervisory experience and/or auditing experience. 3M encoder and Epic system familiarity also a plus.
