Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances. Works cooperatively as part of a team. Description:
  • Primary Responsibilities: Maintain high-level surveillance of patient cardiac rhythms, measure and interpret heart rhythms, and document per policy. Initiate/discontinue monitoring for admissions, transfers, and discharges. Perform clerical duties related to patient information and maintain clinical competence.

  • Safety & Risk Management: Troubleshoot monitors, follow confidentiality and patient rights policies, and comply with event reporting procedures.

  • Coordination of Services: Mentor new staff, maintain accurate census information, prioritize tasks effectively, and coordinate workflow with timely communication.

  • Communication Management: Answer calls professionally, communicate rhythm changes clearly to unit staff, and build cooperative relationships with nursing and clinical teams.

  • Technology: Perform unit-specific computer functions, report system issues, and stay updated on monitoring technology.

  • Professional Development: Demonstrate flexibility, seek learning opportunities, and maintain competency in monitoring systems.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. and/or current Mercy coworker. Monitor tech course completion and/or passing score of 85% on monitor tech competency exam.

  • Other: Basic computer skills. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is essential. Excellent communication skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure is a must.

  • Preferred Experience: Experience preferred but not mandatory.

  • Preferred Certifications: CRAT certification preferred.
