Mercy Hospital St. Louis – Labor & Birth

Mercy St. Louis is seeking a compassionate, dedicated OB Technician to join our Labor & Birth team on the Night Shift (7p–7a). In this vital role, you will support mothers, newborns, families, and the clinical team through both routine and emergent obstetrical care.

About the Role
As an OB Technician, you will maintain accountability for technical and supportive care throughout the obstetric patient experience. Under the direction of nursing and medical staff, you will perform a variety of clinical, surgical, and clerical duties that contribute to excellent patient care and smooth unit operations.
You will work collaboratively with nurses, physicians, and fellow team members to support unit goals, ensure patient comfort, and uphold Mercy's mission, values, and Service Standards. Position Details: What You'll Do Clinical & Patient Care Support

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) for newborns, childbearing/postpartum patients, pediatric patients, and others as assigned.
  • Obtain blood glucose, perform phlebotomy, and transport specimens.
  • Support obstetrical emergencies with calm, efficient teamwork.
  • Provide patient transport as needed.
Surgical & Technical Responsibilities
  • Prepare Operating/Delivery Rooms and patients for labor and delivery procedures—including C-sections—using sterile surgical technique.
  • Serve as first or second scrub during obstetric procedures.
  • Clean, maintain, and process sterile instrumentation according to hospital policy.
  • Monitor safety and infection control practices; serve as a role model for peers.
  • May be required to take call for surgical or emergency support.
Clerical & Operational Duties
  • Assist with patient registration, charge capture, and birth certificate entry.
  • Support bed control, room turnover, and maintenance of accurate patient records.
  • Ensure adequate supplies and equipment availability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support efficient unit function.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED — required
  • This is a non-certified technologist position
  • Completion of an accredited surgical tech program is welcome but active CST certification is not required
  • Proof of education may be requested
