Find your calling at Mercy! Under the direction of the Director of Patient Safety, the Senior Patient Safety Specialist will participate in the implementation, review and support of the facility patient safety program. The senior specialist will support Patient Safety Specialists in their work with patient care teams in achieving high quality and best possible outcomes and will serve as a subject matter expert in patient safety. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
In collaboration with leadership, coworkers, and medical staff the patient safety specialist will develop, implement, monitor and champion processes related to key patient safety issues. The Senior Patent Safety Specialist will model behaviors that embrace just culture, reporting, flexibility, and learning across the organization. The senior specialist will work directly with organizational leaders and multi-disciplinary teams to identify resources needed to support patient safety improvement projects.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Education: Education in clinical or other healthcare related field required (e.g., nursing, respiratory therapy, physical/occupational therapy, health administration, public health)
Experience: 5 years clinical healthcare related experience required
Certification/Registration: Certification in patient safety (e.g. Certified Professional in Patient Safety) or quality (e.g. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) required within 3 years.
Other Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proven leadership ability
- Knowledge of complex hospital and healthcare systems, processes and quality/performance improvement
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills. Effective change agent.
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of the internet, evidence-based medicine, analytical skills and good clinical inquiry and investigational aptitude
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong public speaking skills and demonstrated ability in presenting to a variety of co-workers, including physicians, clinicians, administration, and support staff
- Self-directed and able to perform independently with minimal oversight
- Ability to travel throughout the Mercy Hospitals and Clinics within Mercy footprint MO, AR, OK, and KS at least once a month.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: 7 years in clinical healthcare related experience preferred. 3+ years in patient safety, clinical quality improvement, or risk management experience preferred.
Certifications: Certification in patient safety (e.g. CPPS- Certified Professional in-Patient Safety) or quality (e.g. CPHQ- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality) preferred.
