Department: Speech Therapy Acute

 

Shift: Part-Time (24Hrs. Week), Days

Overview:

  Performs objective assessments as well as comprehensive individualized treatment programs for assigned patients according to departmental policies and procedures regarding referral.  

Job Description:


Perform initial assessment on each patient upon receiving referral. Document all information according to departmental policies and procedures.
1.1 Initiate initial treatment visit according to departmental standards.
1.2 Inquire as to patient's perceived goals of treatment of Speech Language Pathology.
1.3 Inform the patient of modes of achieving perceived goals courteously.
1.4 Perform appropriate objective tests according to departmental policies and procedures regarding standards of treatment.
1.5 Document Initial Evaluation/Plan of Care according to departmental policy.

 

Administer appropriate modalities, exercise regimens, or treatment procedures according to departmental policies and procedures on standards of treatment care.
2.1 Perform individualized treatment procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
2.2 Reassess and update goals as required by department.
2.3 Utilize appropriate safety techniques and infection control methods according to departmental policies and procedures.
2.4 Courteously explain treatment procedures prior to administering to patient.
2.5 Recommend equipment as appropriate.
2.6 Collaborate with other professionals as appropriate for the treatment of all interdisciplinary patients as described in the respective plan of care and according to departmental standards of care.
2.7 Identify and provide written home instructions, outlining repetitions, frequency, and precautions
2.8 Educate patient, family member, or caregiver in rehab performance as well as patient's home procedures and precautions in a professional and courteous manner.
2.9 Document progress notes clearly with patient's responses to treatment procedures and consideration to pre-established goals according to documentation standards and guidelines including appropriate charges for services rendered.


Participate in promoting education within the department.
3.1 Attend departmental inservice meetings/staff meetings and mandatory hospital meetings.
3.2 Participate in required Quality activities as needed for the department and hospital.
3.3 Accrue appropriate number of continuing education credits each monitoring period according to the requirements of supervising and licensing agencies.
3.4 Maintain current CPR license.
3.5 Supervise Speech-Language Pathology students according to American Speech and Hearing Association guidelines.

3.6 Assist in training new co workers as needed.

 

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
4.1 Communicate to physicians with professional language and in a courteous manner via telephone, written correspondence, or personal contact.

 

Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of specific age groups
5.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the changes associated with aging.
5.2 Demonstrates ability to provide care based upon physical, psych/social, cultural, safety and other age-related factors.
5.3 Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient needs.


Qualifications:

 

Education: Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.


Licensure: Current or provisional Speech Language Pathologist license in applicable State of practice.


Certifications: Certification from American Speech and Hearing Association within 1 year of hire, extension at discretion of leader and clinical fellowship supervisor. BLS certified. 

 

Required certifications must be current before assigned to care for patients independently.


Other: Must be able to respond to emergency situations.


Preferred Experience: One year of experience. Experience in caring for patients of all ages preferred.
