The Metallurgist Specialistwill be based in Shanghai, China.  Onboarding will be either virtual or in person at a Nextracker office in Shanghai, China. In this position, you will report to the Director of Manufacturing. NEXTracker is always trying to improve its product, the Metallurgist Specialist will drive steel related design improvement by investigating steel specifications of major steel mills in SEA and China regions and including in NEXTracker design cutting edge steel specifications to optimize cost competitiveness, product quality and specific market requirements.

Here is a glimpse of what you'll do…

• Bilingual in Mandarin and English
• Discuss with steel mills and maintain good technical relationships
• Collect and analyze steel specifications available in the market globally
• Compare with NX steel part design and propose improvement
• Review cost and technical benefits of steel design changes
• Ensure NX design includes latest steel technology
• Collaborate with steel mill metallurgist on formulation improvements to lower cost and improve steel strength
• Assess steelmaking carbon footprint and suggest way to reduce it
• Work with engineering and structural teams to optimize steel properties
• Become resident expert on steel properties
• Designing and conducting experiments to test the properties of metals and alloys
• Analyzing the results of those experiments and developing theories to explain them
• Collaborating with other scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop new products or processes
• Attend trade shows to keep up with latest steel development globally

Here is some of what you'll need (required)…

• Master or PhD in material science with focus on steel
• 10 + years of Strong experience with steelmaking and/or steel companies
• Proactiveness and autonomy
• Strong communication skills in Mandarin and English as a minimum
