A Day in the Life of an IT Database Intern  

 

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in database management and administration within a dynamic and supportive environment. You will work closely with our experienced database administrators to learn best practices and contribute to real-world projects.

Responsibilities 

  • Provide database administration and programming in python, advanced Unix commands, Microsoft SharePoint, Spotfire BI, Apache Hadoop, and NoSQL databases.
  • Assist the senior database administrators with database changes, SQL and database tuning, workload management, automation, scheduling of tasks, backup monitoring and alerting.
  • Collaborate with team leads, database administrators, automation engineers, and business intelligence teams.
  • Help deploy database automation using Rest API, python, shell scripting and integration tasks in Service Now.
  • Assist in network configuration, devices, protocols, and optimizations.
  • Help develop, debug and profile within databases. 

 

 

Education Required 

  • Pursuing Bachelors Degree or higher in CIS, MIS, Engineering or related technology field required.  
  • Active enrolled student during the months of Jan through April 2025 
    • Freshman (27 or fewer credits) 
    • Sophomore (28 to 59 credits) 
    • Junior (60 to 89 credits) 
    • Senior (90 or more credits) 
    • Graduate Student 

 

Skills Required 

  • 1+ year experience in SQL. 
  • Understanding of linux or unix environments, including experience in shell scripting.

 

Skills Preferred 

  • Familiarity with large-scale database architectures. 
  • Understanding of database capacity, bottlenecks, memory utilization, CPU usage, OS, storage, and networks.
  • Enterprise security solutions such as LDAP and Active Directory.
  • RDBMS, such as Oracle or MS SQL server.
  • Source code control methodology and real systems (GitHub).
  • Understanding of on premise and public cloud network architectures.
  • Automation exposure in AWS Aurora, could native databases, databricks or terraform. 

 

Work Conditions
Location: Atlanta, GA 
Environment: Hybrid (two days in office; three days remote) 
Duration: 12 weeks 
Schedule: Monday through Friday; 9AM -5PM
