Primary Purpose:

The Environmental Compliance Manager provides support and expertise to NS's Environmental Group.  This position will focus primarily on the company's compliance with state and federal waste regulations.  The Environmental Compliance Manager must have prior experience with and possess a strong understanding of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), its implementing regulations, and state counterparts for all types of regulated waste (e.g. hazardous, universal, used oil, etc.).  Broad familiarity with environmental regulations across all media is also preferred.  The Environmental Compliance Manager is responsible for monitoring and maintaining NS's environmental compliance with an eye towards continual improvement in compliance systems and programs. The position interfaces heavily with other departments requiring an effective communicator that can build positive relationships with front-line environmental team members.  A highly organized candidate with a positive attitude, self-motivation and expertise with an environmental management system and Power BI apps is preferred. 

Principal Duties will include all or parts of the following:

•    Ensure compliance with CWA, RCRA and CAA by overseeing required permits and site-specific plans. 
•    Manager enterprise company training for personnel involved in pollution prevention and spill response, ensuring compliance with SWPP, SPCC, and FRP requirements. 
•    Manage compliance for NS-owned pipelines, including BMP plans, maintenance coordination, and service contracts; review new commodity requests to ensure proper environmental controls and regulatory adherence. 
•    Implement or develop needed standard operating procedures and compliance systems crucial for ensuring adherence to state and federal waste regulations.  
•    Work closely with field personnel across our system on waste determinations, tracking and recordkeeping, and waste disposal, and oversight of waste service providers.
•    Provide guidance and compliance assistance to waste generators regarding container management and waste handling. 
•    Assist with the preparation of environmental compliance documents, trainings, permits, and plans. 
•    Perform other duties as assigned.  

Job Related Experience:

   Minimum:  5+ years
   Preferred: 10+ years 
 

Education 
•    Bachelor's Degree is required 
•    Master's Degree is preferred 
•    Preferred Majors: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or similar. 

 

Skills Required 
•    5 -10+ years experience in environment compliance, environmental engineering/specialist, or environment consulting. 
    

Licenses / Certifications:
  Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) is preferred. 
 

Technical Skills:
•    Environmental Management Information System (SAP strongly preferred)
•    MS Access/Database Development
•    MS Excel/Spreadsheets
•    MS PowerPoint/Presentations
•    MS Word/Word Processing
•    Power BI
