Primary Purpose:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Enterprise Resources, the Senior Manager, Mechanical Category Management role is responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of category management across all Mechanical business units. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of category strategies to drive business value, cost efficiencies, and process improvements. The Senior Manager will lead a team of Category Managers and Analysts, ensuring alignment with Norfolk Southern goals and fostering collaboration with key stakeholders. The job position will be located at NS's headquarters office in Atlanta.

Responsibilities:

•    Accountable for effective and timely delivery of Category Management day-to-day operations to deliver superior service to business units, including all procurement and contract management activities of a more complex or strategic nature.
•    Provide coaching and overall leadership to the Category managers on the development and implementation of overall Category Strategies. Responsible to ensure the category management function enables the business strategy.
•    Provide oversight of team operations including complex procurement requests from intake through to fulfillment.
•    Review and approve Category Strategies and the program management strategy for facilitating cross-category projects. Ensure that the appropriate processes and dependencies are effectively managed and aligned with business strategies.
•    Oversee the implementation of categories, including optimized spend channels and support the team in increasing Business compliance with optimized spend channels to reduce contract value leakage. 
•    Manage escalations from business partners on request fulfillment.
•    Lead the Category Management team to achieve expected outcomes as measured by Category Management KPIs.
•    Regularly interact and provide insight and influence at all levels of the organization in leading and encouraging Category Management initiatives and work practices.
•    Provide leadership and oversee high-level negotiations and contract development, ensuring optimal terms and conditions for Norfolk Southern.
•    Provide coaching and leadership to category managers to foster strong supplier relationships and oversee supplier performance strategies, metrics, and performance to enhance service levels and value creation.
•    Engage with executive leadership to align category strategies with business priorities and market opportunities. Prioritize alignment and support towards the Category Management initiative across stakeholder groups and Norfolk Southern leadership. 
•    Provide oversight and be accountable for the overall health of the Category Management team. 
 

Job Related Experience:

•    Minimum Level: 3-5 years 
•    Preferred Level: 6-10 years 


Education Required 
•    Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Procurement, Supply Chain Management or related field. 
•    Master's degree is preferred.  

 

Skills Required 
•    3-5 years of supply chain or relatable experience.

 

Skills Preferred  
•    10+ years of supply chain or relatable experience.
•    Prior people leadership experience.  
•    Supply chain experience in specific categories such as category management, and strategy.
•    Certifications in supply chain such as: ASCM, CSCP, CPIM, CLTD, CPSD, ISM, CPSM.
