Description

At NorthBay Health, the HIM Technician II – Birth Certificate Registrar is primarily responsible for the timely and accurate completion of birth certificate registrations in accordance with state and federal regulations. This role conducts interviews with parents, collects required data, and submits birth information through the Automated Vital Statistics System (AVSS). The technician also facilitates related programs such as the Paternity Opportunity Program (POP), Newborn Screening, Newborn Social Security Number Assignment, WIC, and supports data quality efforts in alignment with CMQCC standards.

Additional duties include retrieving discharged records from nursing units, scanning Newborn Assessment Records for continuity of care, and assisting with monitoring transcription reports held in QA. The technician ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, maintains confidentiality of patient information, and collaborates closely with clinical staff and external agencies to support the hospital's birth documentation and public health reporting obligations.

Qualifications

Education:  High School diploma or GED preferred. 

Licensure/Certification: Obtain an HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) Certification within 9 months of start date.

Experience: Two or more years working in an HIM department in an acute care hospital required.  One year experience with birth registration required.   

Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, demonstrate organization time management skills.  Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.  General office and computer skills.  Previous experience working with AVSS required.

Hours of Work: Day shift, Monday – Sunday, as assigned based on business need.  

Compensation: $32 to $39 based on years of experience doing the duties of the role.
