At NorthBay Health, Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and direct oversight by a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern is responsible for technical duties within the department and assists with the preparation, distribution, and delivery of medications.  Additional duties will be assigned to the Pharmacy Intern based on completion of Pharmacy school course work and level of understanding of hospital pharmacy responsibilities.  Upon graduation from Pharmacy School, the Pharmacy Intern may transition into the Graduate Intern Pharmacist position.

 

                                                        PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

 

1.      Prepares and labels oral, injectable and other medications for patients, under supervision and verification by a pharmacist according to departmental policies and procedures.

2.     Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, reconstitutes additives, calculates volumes, and mixes IV solutions, nutritionals, according to departmental procedures using aseptic technique. 

3.      Answers telephone calls from patient care areas about dispensing issues, IV's and general order clarification issues. Refers all clinical and pharmacology questions to the pharmacist and assists pharmacist in researching the answers.

4.         Prepares unit-dose packages of both solid and injectable preparations from bulk stock.

5.         Performs IV rounds to monitor for utilization of solutions with additives.

6.         Prepares IV labels and initiates and maintains IV additive profiles on all patients receiving medication solutions.

7.         Credits returned and unused medication to patient's profiles in the computer.

8.         Restocks and maintains inventory levels in immediate working areas.

9.         Performs ADM activities including running of reports, restocking and billing

10.    Performs other duties, such as assisting with projects and collection of Performance Improvement data, as assigned.

 

                                                                              


 



Qualifications

 Education: Enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) or Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy curriculum. 

 Licensure:  California Board of Pharmacy licensure as an intern.

 Experience:  None required.

 Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate competency in basic pharmaceutical calculations.  Ability to type 25 wpm and have previous computer experience.

Compensation: Posted range include a per diem differential
