Description

At NorthBay Health, the Physical Therapy Assistant works under the management supervision of the Rehabilitation Services Supervisor and Rehabilitation Services Manager. Under the clinical supervision of a licensed physical therapist, administers assigned patient treatments, assists with treatment planning, prepares and transmits written and verbal communication of patient progress, supervises students and volunteers as assigned. Physical Therapist Assistant shall be supervised by a licensed physical therapist per established departmental guidelines and regulatory standards.

 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

 

  1. Provides physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist, in inpatient and outpatient settings during assigned shift during department operating hours, including assignment in rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
  2. Under the supervision of a physical therapist, administers modalities and procedures specific to the learning needs and age of the patient. Assists physical therapist with plans for discharge.        
  3. Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. 
  4. Provides patient, family/caregivers with age appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program, and provides additional instruction as indicated.
  5. Instructs the patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment. 
  6. Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes as appropriate.
  7. Attends and/or participates inter/intradepartmental inservices and meetings as required and appropriate. 
  8. Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
  9. Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
  10. Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment.  Reports to supervisor any problems or suggestions regarding safety in the workplace. 
  11. Assists in with ordering, cleaning and stocking equipment and supplies per departmental guidelines.
  12. Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, co-workers, patients and other hospital personnel
  13. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, inservice meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  1. Education: Minimum Associate of Science degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

  2. Licensure/ Certifications: Current California Physical Therapist Assistant license is requiredPhysical Therapist Assistant License applicant may be considered. Current AHA or equivalent BLS certification and all other annual requirements of System and department. (TB, Safety, etc.)

  3. Experience: One year experience in acute hospital or outpatient clinic preferred, however, will consider new graduates.

  4. Skills:  Good basic clinical skills in physical therapy treatment for a wide range of physical disabilities. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. Knowledge of existing laws and regulations governing the practice of Physical Therapy. 

  5.   8. Hours of Work: Assigned shift during department operating hours, including assignment in rotation of weekend and holiday coverage (required).
