At NorthBay Health the Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) provides structured education to patients and their family's related to chronic health care issues under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian (RD). Primary teaching responsibilities will address heart failure and COPD. Heart failure and COPD education will include: nutritional management, healthy coping and problem solving skills related to the diagnosis.

- Coordinates nutrition counseling and education for heart failure and COPD patients under the supervision of the RD.
- Evaluates effectiveness of nutrition care.
- Provides nutrition screening for low nutrition risk patients per policy and process and refers patients when indicated to the RD.
- Participates in nutrition education activities outside department setting.
- Works with department leadership when indicated to support oversight of patient meal services or patient meal selections.
- Supports patient satisfaction initiatives organizationally and department-based. Upholds the NorthBay Way principle and uses AIDET tools with each patient interaction.
- Assess patient and family needs for intermittent education, providing content to meet specific individual needs on a timely basis.
- Document patient education including patient learning needs, responsiveness and action plans.
- Conduct Process Improvement projects annually to confirm the efficacy of the education provided.
- Research and maintain current, effective learning tools to expedite the integration of information by the patient.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Completion of one of the following paths
- Successful completion of a Dietetic Technician Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy, that includes 450 hours of supervised practice experience in various community-based programs, health care and foodservice facilities and has completed at least a two-year associate's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university. Coursework typically includes fundamentals of nutrition and nutrition across the lifespan, applied food science and techniques of food preparation, foodservice systems management, chemistry, and physiology, microbiology applied to food safety, human resource management, communications, and business. ACEND is the accrediting agency for dietetics education programs and is recognized by the United States Department of Education as the accrediting agency for education programs that prepare dietetics practitioners. - Completion of a Baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college/university, or foreign equivalent, and completion of a ACEND Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD), and completion of an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Technician supervised practice program.
- Successful completion of coursework in an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics and completion of at least a bachelor's degree at a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
2. Licensure/Credentials: After completing the degree and dietetics coursework, successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietetic Technicians, a national credentialing examination, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required. ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification required within 3 months of hire.
3. Experience: Acute care experience preferred, patient education experience preferred.
4. Skills: Must have knowledge of the skill necessary to perform patient and family education in a one on one setting as well as a classroom setting. Must be able to develop a curriculum, patient education materials and evaluation tool. Computer skills desired. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing education for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, and Young Adult.
Compensation:$38.98-46.10 Based on years of experience as a Registered Diet Tech
