What you'll do:

The Mechanical Engineer role is a key contributor to the engineering team's success. This small but effective team is focused on delivering custom automation solutions – everything from custom single-axis actuators to OEM engineered automated machines/systems for Fortune 500 clients across the US and beyond.

 

Under the direction of the Design Engineering Manager, you will carry full project responsibility for concept, design, development, and testing of cutting-edge automation solutions that may include a range of vision, motion, and robotics. These solutions may have life cycles that range from proof of concept to mass production, sustainment, and end-of-life. In addition, you will engage with our supply chain, manufacturing, and quality groups to maintain ISO9001 processes, review and approve Engineering Change of Order (ECO's), and maintain accurate revision control.  

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work efficiently and develop lasting relationships with fast-paced, world-class, technically savvy clients. This person will be a creative problem solver with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, confident in mechatronics design solutions, well-organized, and self-motivated. The position requires enthusiasm, tenacity, creativity, flexibility, resiliency, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a professional and courteous personality. Additional details about what you will be doing includes:

 

  • Prepare SOW's/proposals for incoming business
  • Produce detailed 3D models of parts, complete mechatronic assemblies, and OEM products
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles to demonstrate capability and reproducibility in the system output
  • Applying and leading teams in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) & Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) processes during the design process
  • Master of root cause analysis principles in troubleshooting automated systems
  • Create and/or check detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies
  • Design, execute, or direct Proof of Concepts (POC) to determine feasibility and performance
  • Infrequent travel may be necessary from time to time, < 10%

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent required
  • 10 years of relevant design experience required
  • Demonstrated application of Six Sigma process control, LEAN and/or DFSS
  • Computer literacy and Microsoft Office experience is a must
  • Experience in PDM (i.e., SolidWorks PDM,), ERP (i.e., Syspro, SAP), CAD (i.e., SolidWorks required) software systems
  • Experience with mechatronics (i.e., sensors, vision, motion control, PLC, robotics)
  • Experience in designing or understanding of automation controls (i.e., electrical schematics, automation control panels, PLC's)
  • Understanding principles of software code (robot, vision programing) is a plus.
