Summary:

Under direct supervision of Deputy Chief Counsel, responsible for tribal representation in Tribal, State and Federal forums. Assist and represent the Oneida Tribe in all areas as needed. 


Responsibilities:

* Follow through on all work assigned by Chief Legal Counsel, Business Committee and Oneida General Tribal Council. Maintain responsibility for all work assigned.
* Provide weekly reports to the Deputy Chief Counsel and as requested to the Oneida Business Committee.
* Meet all requirements to maintain licensing with the Wisconsin State Bar.
* Work with other counsel as needed/required.
* The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position
* Travel as needed and/or required.
* Collaborate with other counsel in the Oneida Law Office, as needed or required, Positively contribute to a team environment. Work with other attorneys and/ or professional legal staff in an effort to achieve a desired result, outcome, or resolution.
* Appear in various courts, in accordance with the court's requirements.
* Research legal questions, analyze problems, and prepare memoranda and correspondence to address legal issues and questions from departments, divisions, programs, etc. of the Nation. When appropriate, present memoranda and other correspondence for review and/or approval of Deputy Chief Counsel.

* Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
* Knowledge, experience, and skills operating a personal computer with word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software programs in a windows environment
* Knowledge and/or training in Indian Law, conflict resolution, mediation and negotiations.
* Knowledge and experience working in the area of Indian law. Knowledge of its ramifications on practice within local, state and federal courts and agencies.
* Knowledge and experience in general practice and litigation.
* Knowledge of current commerce issues in Indian country.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
