Summary:

This position works independently with minimal supervision to, assist with legal inquiries, prepare and draft legal documents, attend court hearings, maintain a close working relationship with the Indian Child Welfare (ICW) department, and act as a liaison between the Oneida Family Court and Oneida ICW department.


Responsibilities:

* Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly (Customer service provided shall be in line with the organizations "Good Mind" core values)
* Prepare exhibits and other demonstrative evidence for use at trial.
* Participate in special administrative and legal research projects as requested.
* Perform administrative duties including creating and preparing routine materials, proofreading, verifying, and editing all materials with extreme accuracy and clarity.
* Responsible for creating, maintaining and updating department merged documents, forms and other shared documents.
* Adhere to all Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures, Tribal Standard Operating Procedures, and Area and Program Strategic Plans and Policies
* Schedule hearings and coordinate schedules with department staff.
* Manage timelines for legal documentation.
* Draft, review and update legal documents for department staff and attorney
* File legal documents with the court.
* Manage statistical data for the department.
* Data entry as well as ensuring accuracy of department's case management data.
* Update and maintain documentation related to inter-departmental referrals.
* Draft, establish and renew legal contracts.
* Draft Standard Operating Procedures and policies related to the department.
* Assist and participate with department community education/awareness events.

* Must present a professional appearance and demeanor as a representative of the Oneida Nation in dealing with the general public
* Advanced computer skills to prepare complex correspondence, reports, charts, tables, graphs, and forms
* Knowledge of computer databases and word-processing tools, including working with forms, macros and other tools for creating shared documents
* Knowledge of tribal, state, federal laws, rules, regulations and policies pertaining to child welfare
* Knowledge of legal terminology and court room procedures
* Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, for generating legal documents and correspondence
* Ability to identify and resolve issues of a procedural nature.
* Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment, utilizing team resources as appropriate.
* Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of individuals and groups in a complex, multi-cultural environment.
* Ability to function in a continuously evolving environment
* Ability to plan, organize, and schedule priorities efficiently and effectively.

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* Bachelor's Degree in Legal
* Bachelor's Degree in Business

Credentials:
Essential:
* Child Abuse Reporting Policy (CARP) (Hrd),  Complete Oneida Certification on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect training within ninety (90) days of employment.
* notary license, obtain and maintain notary license.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
