Summary:
This position will be responsible for assessing and improving the health and safety of the public. This includes but is not limited to food service inspections, indoor air quality concerns, occupancy concerns, and workplace conditions that may cause worker injury or illness. The Sanitarian works with local, state and federal health and public health regulations to ensure compliance and promote good public health practices.
Responsibilities:
* Inspects facilities, equipment, operating procedures, and staff competence to ensure health and sanitation regulation compliance.
* Prepare, review, and make recommendations on environmental health reports, projects, and activities.
* Investigate complaints concerning violations of public health laws.
* Interview individuals to obtain information and evidence regarding communicable diseases or violations of health and sanitation regulations.
* Serve as a review and lead level for all activities and reports of the public health staff.
* Identify any training needs of Environmental health staff and serve as a mentor.
* Conduct routine public health staff meetings with Environmental Health Department staff.
* Recommend corrective action or changes in facilities, standards, or administrative methods in response to complaints, license applications, undesirable conditions, or violations of law.
* Coordinate and conduct educational classes pertaining to food safety, recreational safety, indoor air quality, injury prevention, and workplace conditions that may cause worker injury or illness.
* Develop and implement public health programs and policies; stays abreast of new and emerging technologies.
* Manage related project to include obtaining bids and proposals, negotiating contracts, and monitoring projects to ensure adherence to budget and time requirements and compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
* Analyze and amend Oneida public health codes and laws as needed to ensure best practices are being utilized by the Nation.
* Secure additional funding and grant monies for continuation and expansion of program services.
* Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations

* Knowledge, experience, and skills operating a personal computer with word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software programs in a windows environment
* Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational, audit, and financial reports
* Knowledge of industrial hygiene testing equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment.
* Knowledge of the principles of program management.
* Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements
* Ability to travel extensively and work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
* Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.
Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
