After successful completion of the probationary period, employee will receive off probation wage increase.


Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Director, support tribal wide goals and initiatives this position provides an opportunity for individuals to expand the use of the Oneida Language in the community. This position requires speaking the Oneida language, developing materials and learning instructional strategies to expand the instruction of Oneida Language within the Oneida Nation.


Responsibilities:
* Must comply with Bureau of Indian Education criminal history records check as a condition of employment to include fingerprinting.
* Become a competent speaker of the Oneida Language and knowledgeable of the Oneida culture.
* Learn language teaching methods and demonstrate effective Oneida language teaching methods with small groups.
* Create Oneida language and culture instructional materials.
* Provide virtual language instruction to improve Oneida language proficiency skills across the modalities of Listening, Reading, and Speaking.
* Work on tribal wide basis to preserve and revitalizes Oneida language with community members and Tribal employees in various departments by providing language classes with individuals and small groups.
* Submit status reports of language acquisition accomplishment through unit plans and activities.
* Maintain records of training progress and contacts with various departments and community classes regarding the implementation of Oneida Language lessons.
* Active participation in and observation of Oneida Nation ceremonial and cultural events is mandatory to build a knowledge base and develop culturally appropriate teaching methodologies for community language learning programs.
* Practice excellent customer service skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and employee needs courteously and promptly.
* Contribute to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
* Attend necessary Language and Culture training activities, events and college courses that are appropriate for skill development to obtain an Oneida Nation Language Teacher Certification (or equivalent).

* Ability to attend necessary Language and Culture training activities and events that are determined to be appropriate for Oneida Language and Culture skill development
* Ability to work cooperatively with various Tribal programs to provide adequate training time on the Oneida Language and Culture
* Skill in customer/client relations
* Knowledge of the Oneida Language and Culture.
* Ability and willingness to create and maintain an appropriate environment for learning.

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:
Essential:
* General Ed, High School Equivalency Diploma, HS Diploma
* A Combination of Experience and Education May Be Considered
Nonessential:
* Associates Degree in American Indian/Native American Studies
* Associates Degree in Linguistics

Credentials:

Essential:
* Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
* Insurance Required
* Child Abuse Reporting Policy (CARP), within 90 days of employment.
* Oneida Language Teacher Certification, within three (3) years of employment.

* Experience in immersion school or college-level Haudenosaunee language classes.

Must pass a background check to meet Employment Eligibility Requirements. If applicable, must pass a background check to meet Oneida Nation/State Compact and/or Oneida Nation Gaming Ordinance, and may be required to obtain a temporary license and/or Gaming license as a condition of employment.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
