The Campus Security Officer plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This position is responsible for patrolling campus grounds, enforcing safety regulations, responding to incidents, and providing assistance to the campus community.
Signing bonus $1,000 plus relocation bonus $3,000
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Patrol campus buildings, facilities, parking lots, and surrounding areas on foot or by vehicle to deter and detect unauthorized activity.
- Monitor access points to ensure only authorized individuals enter restricted areas.
- Respond promptly to alarms, calls for service, disturbances, medical emergencies, fire incidents, or security breaches.
- Conduct routine safety inspections of doors, windows, lighting, fire extinguishers, and emergency equipment.
- Enforce campus rules, regulations, and policies in a professional and respectful manner.
- Provide escorts for students, staff, or visitors when requested to ensure personal safety.
- Investigate suspicious activities, safety hazards, accidents, thefts, or other incidents, and complete detailed written reports.
- Monitor and operate security systems, cameras, and communication equipment.
- Assist with crowd control and traffic management during special events, emergencies, or evacuations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff to support a safe and inclusive campus community.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other campus departments as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training related to emergency response, de-escalation, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid BC Security license
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's license
- Occupational First Aid Training
- At least one year of security experience
- Strong observational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays (as needed).
- Physical ability to walk/stand for extended periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
