Job Skills / Requirements The field Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations and ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations of the company and that the policies, procedures and stated aims of the organization are me. This position exists to ensure that the quality of deployed Paladin field staff either meets or exceeds the commitments we have made to our clients. The Field Manager's primary job is to visit Paladin field staff and inspect the quality of their work. Recommendations and corrective action are provided as needed. This position reports to Branch Leadership. Field Managers work closely with Client Service Managers, Branch Managers, and Paladin Directors relating to quality control and operational issues. Training and advice are given to all Security Officers in the General Duties Division. Frequent communication with Mobile Supervisors, Site Managers, Site Supervisors, Security Officers, and Paladin Operations is expected of the Field Manager. Contact with clients, tenants, police, and other emergency services is also required. This is a full-time position that works on a 4 on 4 off rotation from 1600-0400.
Essential Job Functions
- First point of contact for Operations, Zone Supervisors, Clients, and front line employees for any incident, emergency, or inquiry
- Responsible for management level response to incidences and emergencies, while liaising with local authorities and regulatory agencies, depending on incident
- Investigate and report on all occupation health & safety incidents following the procedures set out in the corporate OH&S manual
- Oversees site training to ensure all staff posted at Paladin Security sites are familiar with the site's operation, post orders, and duties.
- Create and maintain positive morale within the organization focused on building a team environment and inclusive culture
- Ensures that all security guards are dressed professionally and, in a manner, consistent with Paladin Security's policies on dress and deportment
- Provides coaching and disciplinary action to an employee whose actions are inconsistent with the goals, the policies, or the procedures of Paladin Security
- Responsible for the maintenance of Paladin's Occupational Health and Safety program for all site binders
- Monitor, identify and report any health and safety deficiencies on their site, and instruct all staff in good work safe practices
- Ensures all reports generated by Paladin Security staff members (incident reports, memo books, daily reports) are completed in accordance with Paladin's high standards
- Communicates appropriate information to Operations as needed to ensure any outstanding issues are dealt with in a timely fashion
- Monitor daily and nightly incident reports to ensure both relevancy and accuracy
- Perform quality control checks to ensure Paladin clients are receiving only high-quality security service
- Conduct investigations as required.
- Ensure necessary emergency assistance is provided to sites in the event of emergencies such as bomb threats, fires, assault, break and enters, etc.
- Ensure that during major events a PIN (Paladin Incident Notification) is sent out, or responded to where necessary
- Investigates major disciplinary events such as accidents involving company vehicles, Security Officer negligence causing damage to client property, and severe breaches of security/confidentiality at client sites
- Ensure all after hours notable occurrences are documented in the appropriate fashion (email, incident report, etc.)
- Supervise and discipline Security Officers in accordance with company policies and procedures when necessary. Follow up via writing to appropriate site manager
- Interact with clients when required. This includes unusual or high priority occurrences on client sites, client complaint investigations, or when requested by the appropriate site manager
- Complete field assignments as requested by appropriate managers
- Perform site orientations, site training, equipment drop off/pick up, Security Officer shuttles, and other miscellaneous tasks as required to fulfill the operational requirements after hours
- All other duties as assigned.
- The following must receive direction from the appropriate manager or director:
- Inspections or special tasks for high priority or sensitive client sites
- Vehicle maintenance costs over $50.00
- Significant decisions concerning the operation of general duty sites which could operationally and/or financially impact the company
- Discipline of Paladin Security Officers and Supervisors outside the scope of minor corrective action - The Field Manager will be responsible for and required to:
- Determine if minor disciplinary action is warranted, and to report via writing to the appropriate manager of what actions were taken
- Audit performance of Security Officers and Supervisors and recommend corrective actions or accolades where warranted to the appropriate manager
- Approve vehicle maintenance costs under $50.00
- Determine if a location a Security Officer is deployed at is safe and appropriate for work
The Field Manager will provide feedback to site managers regarding:
- Methods to improve the security effectiveness at client sites
- Report if a Paladin staff member is having challenges at a site and provide recommendations for addressing the issues including coaching, re-training, discipline, and transfer to another location
Working Conditions:
- Shift work is a requirement of this role, often 12-hour overnight shifts
- Sitting, driving, standing, and walking for extended periods a possibility
- A high level of visual attention is required when driving to and from different client sites during busy traffic, inclement weather, on phone calls, and/or with passengers in the vehicle all capable of causing distractions.
- Having to deal with disciplinary situations involving field staff, which can lead to heightened emotions.
- Completion of high school diploma required; undergraduate degree an asset
- Prior security and/or law enforcement experience is an asset
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience with a demonstrated history of progressive management responsibilities
- Strong knowledge of appropriate legislation and provincial/national standards on fire safety, security, and protection of privacy is considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Divers License - no more than 5 demerit point
- Valid Alberta Security License
- Must have strong leadership, time management and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel), Knowledge in Tracktik, and WinTeam scheduling software
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
- Formal education in law enforcement preferred but not required
High School Diploma/GED
Post secondary education in law enforcement from a recognized institution or equivalent experience
Valid Class 5 Advanced License
Valid Alberta Security License
2 years of security supervisor experience
