Site Description:The Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, NL, is a tertiary acute care facility serving the province and is a teaching hospital affiliated with Memorial University. It provides a wide range of services, including specialized treatments, emergency care, cancer care, mental health services, rehabilitation, and long-term care. The centre also focuses on research and innovation, staff well-being, and community engagement .
Position Details:
Position: Full-Time Security Guard
Pay Rate: $19.67/hour
Overtime: After 48 hours
Schedule: Continental Rotation
Posting Date: March 3, 2026

Schedule Example:Week 1 – Days: Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
Week 2 – Days: Sun, Wed-Thu
Week 3 – Nights: Mon-Tues, Fri-Sat
Week 4 – Nights: Sun, Wed-Thu
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular patrols of hospital grounds, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, and entrances/exits.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems; report suspicious activity immediately.
- Control access points, ensuring only authorized individuals enter restricted areas.
- Respond to emergencies (medical, fire, security threats) and assist during crises and evacuations.
- Provide customer service by assisting visitors, patients, and staff while ensuring policy compliance.
- De-escalate conflicts and handle tense situations professionally.
- Complete accurate daily reports, including incidents and security concerns.
- Collaborate with hospital staff and law enforcement to maintain safety.
- Enforce hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols.
Prerequisites:
- Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid First Aid & CPR Level C (CSA-approved)
- Tuberculosis (TB) screening
- Proof of full childhood/primary vaccinations
- One adult dose of Tdap (age 18+)
- Tdap booster required every 10 years
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- English fluency (oral and written)
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or related field preferred
- Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) certification required
Applicants without UOF/MOAB may enroll in Paladin's UOF/MOAB training program prior to onboarding to meet position requirements.
