Site Overview: The Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority (HOPA Ports) site is an active industrial port environment with large-scale shipping, warehousing, and logistics operations. You'll see vessels loading and unloading bulk materials like grain, steel, and aggregates, alongside rail and truck activity. The site includes dock areas, storage facilities, and heavy equipment, with strict safety and environmental protocols. It's a busy, high-traffic area that supports international trade and local industry.

Position: Temporary Part-Time Mobile Guard (3 months contract)
Site: Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority, 450 Sherman Ave N, Hamilton, ON L8L 8J6
Hours: Saturday & Sunday (1500-2300 hrs)
Payrate: $18.78/hr.

Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement after 88 Hours

Essential Job Functions:

  • Remain alert, vigilant, and observant while performing duties outdoors, including standing or walking for extended periods in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, and cold).
  • Maintain continuous and effective communication with fellow security personnel, dispatchers, HOPA staff, and Paladin Security management.
  • Ensure that all on-site personnel strictly adhere to Paladin Security and HOPA policies and procedures at all times.
  • Facilitate the accurate and timely transfer of essential documentation to on-site guards, dispatchers, clients, and Paladin leadership.
  • Conduct mobile and foot patrols with diligence and attention to detail, ensuring the security and safety of the port premises.
  • Document, report, and assist in the investigation of security incidents, safety concerns, and complaints, ensuring proper escalation as needed.
  • Promptly communicate any operational concerns or incidents to the Site Guards, Client Service Manager, or HOPA client representative.
  • Inspect security vehicles before and after use, reporting any deficiencies or maintenance concerns to Paladin leadership without delay.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently while remaining self-motivated and focused on task execution.
  • Uphold the highest standards of professionalism in appearance, conduct, and service delivery, acting as a representative of both Paladin Security and the HOPA.
  • Ensure all security duties are carried out in alignment with established standard operating procedures and in compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal laws.
  • Remain observant during patrols, noting and addressing any security discrepancies, procedural deficiencies, or safety hazards—taking appropriate corrective action when possible or escalating to the relevant department.
  • Exhibit a courteous and professional demeanor while enforcing HOPA's policies, procedures, and site regulations.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations, executing appropriate responses based on established protocols and coordinating with internal and external emergency services as required.
  • Carry out all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Paladin Security leadership or directed by the HOPA client team, ensuring site integrity and operational continuity.

Requirements:

  • Valid G-Class driver's license with last 3 years of clean driver's abstract required
  • Valid Ontario Security Guard License and First Aid CPR, and AED certification
  • Minimum one year of experience working in security
  • Proficient in English (both oral and written)
  • Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services is an asset
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

Please be aware: The UOF/MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-employment requisite; however, Paladin will cover all the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
