CLA/Pathology Technician- Waukesha Memorial Hospital- 0.8 FTE - Day Shift

Schedule Details: This is a 0.8 FTE position committing to 32 hours per week on First/ Day shift. Routine schedule is 1030-1730. However, occasionally this staff member will be required to fill open shifts between 0600-1800. There is an every 5th weekend rotating call requirement on Saturdays from 0800-1200. Main location of this position is at Waukesha Memorial Hospital but could also be asked to drive to Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, Pewaukee, and Mukwonago Hospital throughout the work day. This position must be able to travel to different ProHealth Care locations to handle procedures or frozen sections during shifts or start /end at alternate locations.

ProHealth Care offers a system-wide laboratory operation with core hospital labs at Waukesha Memorial and Oconomowoc Memorial as well as two clinic-based laboratory sites in Waukesha County. The laboratory performs over 8 million tests annually.

 

Our Lab services operate state of the art facilities and include clinical testing in the areas of Histology, Cytology, Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Chemistry, Urinalysis, Immunoassay, Microbiology, Transfusion service, EIA, and Molecular Biology.  ProHealth Care offers a vibrant outreach program, providing laboratory testing to numerous specialty hospitals, physician offices, nursing home, and assisted living facilities.  Our Pathologists and PhDs  work closely with lab employees to monitor quality, as well as identify, access, and implement new technology.   The Laboratory has certification and accreditation through the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA).

What You Will Do:

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant – Pathology Technician (CLA-PT) is responsible for accurate and efficient receipt, processing and distribution of specimens from inpatients, outpatients and outside clients in Anatomical Pathology.  Provides procedure assisting for Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) specimen collection with physicians, pathologists and nursing at ProHealth Care locations as assigned. Assists pathologists & pathologist assistant with frozen sections at assigned ProHealth Care locations. Maintains proficiency of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other information systems.   Acts as a liaison between the laboratory, nursing, physicians, other healthcare providers and reference laboratories.  Must have the ability to work at various PHC Lab locations as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Occasional travel for position is required
  • Previous experience taking responsibility and coordinating function in healthcare setting preferred.
  • Medical terminology required
  • Ability to type
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills to coordinate workflow and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Customer Oriented/Team Oriented
  • Strong verbal, written and telecommunication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of staff
  • Highly motivated/self-starter individual
