What You Will Do:
Accountable for overseeing and monitoring the daily operations of the Client Support Services and / or Phlebotomy Departments of ProHealth Care Laboratories. This includes client services, specimen processing, nursing home phlebotomy, inpatient/outpatient phlebotomy, send-outs, microbiology set-ups, and courier services. This role coordinates, assesses and adjusts workflow, develops and maintains schedule, serves as a resource to staff, and assists in addressing customer concerns. Must have the ability to help at various PHC Lab locations as needed. This position requires a weekend on-call rotation in order to meet minimum staffing for the department in the event of a staff call-in, late arrival, early departure, etc.
- Coordinates the efforts and daily operations of client services, inpatient, outpatient, and / or nursing home phlebotomy, specimen processing, microbiology set-ups, send-outs, and courier staff, ensuring adequate staffing in these areas to support consistent and appropriate processes to meet clinical needs and assure customer satisfaction. This may include performing these duties when unable to fulfill minimum staffing expectations.
- Reviews and updates all relevant policies and procedures to ensure adherence with all regulatory agencies.
Develops and reviews training documentation and ongoing competency assessments.
Assures all policies and procedures are adhered to, including assuring a culture of patient safety in accordance with ProHealth Care philosophies, policies and procedures.
Collaborates with department Supervisor in orientation programs for new staff. Coordinates education / competency assessments to ensure continuous staff development and compliance with accrediting agencies.
Assures effective intra- and interdepartmental communication, between shifts with staff, Supervisor, and Manager regarding workflow, specimen processing, and customer issues. Identifies workflow inefficiencies and works in partnership with management to resolve.
Investigates and assists in troubleshooting problems, and assures appropriate communication with customers. Investigates errors, safety issues, and "near misses" and participates in the identification and implementation of corrective action.
Serves as a liaison and resource to the technical laboratory staff. This includes collaborative problem-solving related to specimen collection, processing, packaging, result reporting, and courier activities.
Ensures that the collection and entering of patient and provider information follows established procedures/standards.
Performs the duties of a scheduled staff member “on the bench” up to 90%+ of the time per pay period.
Coordinates ordering and distribution of supplies using Lawson and / or other electronic systems for internal department needs, for Outreach (non-PHC) Clients, and as needed for PHMG Clinics.
Reviews and verifies timecards for accuracy. Edits timecards as necessary with Supervisor oversight. Enters department schedules in Kronos as needed.
Communicates regularly with Supervisor regarding equipment, general workflow and staffing activities.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years of relevant experience preferred
- ASCP or AMT certified as a Phlebotomist, Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician or equivalent or eligible preferred
