Director, Product FP&A

Why We Have This Role

At the forefront of Qualtrics' continued rapid growth and category leadership in Experience Management, the Product, UX, and Engineering (PXE) organization is charting our future. We are seeking a strategic and influential Director of Finance to be the dedicated financial leader and partner to the President of PXE and their executive leadership team, including SVPs/VPs across Product, UX, Engineering, Security, and Product Operations. This pivotal role will be the central finance voice in driving product strategy, optimal resource allocation, informing critical investment prioritization, and shaping the strategic financial direction for these core innovation engines, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to achieve these outcomes. By providing deep product performance insights and proactively managing our cost base, particularly in cloud hosting and vendor expenses, you will directly contribute to maximizing our gross margin and accelerating the delivery of world-class products and experiences to our global customer base.

How You'll Find Success

  • Strategic Financial Acumen with Product & Technology Depth: A strong understanding of SaaS business models, product development lifecycles, engineering operations, user experience principles, and the ability to translate product strategy, pricing considerations, and buy/build/partner analyses into financial implications and insights.
  • Exceptional Communication and Influencing Abilities: The capacity to build trust and strong relationships with senior product, engineering, and UX leaders, clearly articulate complex financial insights to both financial and non-financial audiences, and effectively influence strategic decision-making, including pricing and long-term product roadmap choices.
  • Analytical Rigor and Business Insight Generation: The aptitude to analyze complex financial and product performance data, identify key trends, develop actionable insights that inform product strategy, resource allocation, and cost optimization (especially cloud hosting and vendor costs), and drive data-driven decisions within cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborative Cross-Functional Partnership: The ability to work effectively and build strong working relationships with diverse teams, including Product Management, Engineering, UX, Product Operations, and Business Planning, to achieve shared objectives and drive impactful financial outcomes.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving and Initiative: A results-oriented mindset with the ability to anticipate financial challenges and opportunities, develop creative solutions, and proactively drive initiatives to improve financial performance and support strategic goals.
  • Proven Leadership and a Passion for Team Development: Demonstrated experience in leading, mentoring, and developing a finance team (with the expectation of leading a team of 3-5 people over time). A genuine passion for fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture, and a track record of growing individuals in their careers will be critical.
  • Understanding of Gross Margin Drivers and Optimization: A strong grasp of the key factors influencing gross margin within a SaaS business and a proven ability to develop and execute strategies to improve and effectively manage gross margin, particularly in the context of product costs and pricing.

How You'll Grow

  • Deepen Your Strategic Influence in Product & Technology: You'll gain unparalleled exposure to the strategic decision-making processes within a leading SaaS company's core innovation engine. By working directly with the President of PXE and their leadership team on critical product roadmap decisions, pricing strategies, and buy/build/partner analyses, you'll develop a nuanced understanding of how financial insights directly shape the future of our products and the broader business.
  • Expand Your Leadership Capabilities in a Dynamic Environment: You'll have the opportunity to build and develop a high-performing finance team, honing your leadership, coaching, and talent development skills. This role offers a platform to establish best practices for financial support within a fast-paced, innovative environment, allowing you to leave a lasting impact on the Finance organization and the individuals you lead.
  • Broaden Your Cross-Functional Expertise and Business Acumen: By collaborating closely with diverse teams across PXE, GTM, Finance and Strategy functions, you'll gain a holistic understanding of the interconnectedness of these functions. This exposure will significantly enhance your overall business acumen, providing valuable insights into product development, go-to-market strategies, and operational execution within a successful SaaS organization.

Things You'll Do

How: Develop robust financial models, analyze market trends and competitive landscapes, and present clear, data-driven recommendations to the President of PXE and the leadership team.
  • Optimize Resource Allocation for Innovation: You'll ensure that investments across Product, Engineering, and UX are aligned with strategic priorities and deliver maximum return. How: Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes, critically evaluate investment proposals, and establish clear financial accountability for resource utilization across different product lines and initiatives.
  • Elevate Product Performance Insights: You'll provide the PXE organization with a deep understanding of product profitability, key performance indicators, and areas for improvement. How: Develop comprehensive product performance dashboards and reports, conduct in-depth variance analyses, and proactively communicate insights to cross-functional product teams to inform strategic and operational adjustments.
  • Maximize Gross Margin: You'll be instrumental in improving Qualtrics' profitability by strategically managing the cost base within PXE, particularly focusing on cloud hosting and vendor expenses. How: Recruit top talent, establish clear roles and responsibilities, provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities, and foster a collaborative and results-oriented team culture.
  • Serve as a Trusted Business Partner: You'll become a go-to financial expert for the President of PXE and their leadership team, providing proactive insights and guidance on a wide range of strategic and operational matters. How: Build strong relationships based on trust and credibility, actively participate in leadership team meetings, and provide timely and relevant financial perspectives on key business challenges and opportunities.
