The Director of Finance -- Special Projects provides strategic and execution-focused leadership for complex financial initiatives, with a primary emphasis on bond financing transactions and other financing-related projects.

 

How You Will Impact Education

  • Manage complex bond financing transactions and other debt-related initiatives from initial planning through closing.
  • Serve as the finance lead for special projects involving capital markets transactions, refinancings, restructurings, and alternative financing arrangements.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and coordination of financing documentation, including offering materials, closing documents, approvals, and related disclosures.
  • Act as a senior point of contact with external parties such as underwriters, banks, bond counsel, financial advisors, trustees, and rating agencies.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, Treasury, Legal, Accounting, and FP&A to ensure financing transactions align with organizational strategy and financial objectives.
  • Manage transaction timelines, workplans, and deliverables to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant execution.
  • Oversee due diligence activities, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial, operational, and supporting information.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, disclosure requirements, debt covenants, and internal governance policies.
  • Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations related to funding options, capital structure, risks, and cost of capital.
  • Support post-closing activities, including settlement confirmation, documentation retention, reporting, and internal communication.
  • Prepare and present executive-level summaries, analyses, and recommendations related to financing transactions and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financing processes, controls, and project execution practices.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills

  1. In-depth knowledge of bond financing structures, debt instruments, and capital markets.
  2. Strong understanding of financing transaction processes, including documentation, due diligence, and closings.
  3. Knowledge of regulatory, disclosure, and compliance requirements related to debt issuance.
  4. Advanced financial analysis and modeling skills.
  5. Proven project management and organizational capabilities.
  6. Ability to interpret and evaluate complex legal and financial documents.
  7. Cross-functional collaboration skills.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level presentations.
  9. High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial, treasury, or reporting systems.
  11. Demonstrated experience leading or supporting bond financing or other complex financing transactions.
  12. Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to execute detailed, transaction-oriented work.
  13. Ability to manage sensitive and confidential financial information with discretion.
  14. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across organizational levels.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (CPA, CFA, or similar) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, treasury, capital markets, or debt-related transactions.
  • Experience working with external financial institutions, legal counsel, and advisory firms.
