Description

Description

SAIC is seeking an AI Databricks Automation Engineer to join the Databricks Solution Team within the IRS Advanced Analytics Program (AAP). This role designs and implements automated test frameworks to validate data pipelines, model workflows, and platform services in Databricks while also bringing hands-on skills as a Databricks Engineer.

The engineer will embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, covering functional, performance, and compliance scenarios, while directly contributing to Databricks-based AI/ML engineering tasks such as pipeline optimization, MLflow integration, and workspace orchestration. By combining automation and engineering expertise, this role strengthens reliability and accelerates adoption of AI/ML capabilities across IRS mission teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automated test frameworks for Databricks-based data pipelines, jobs, and ML workflows.
  • Integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket, Bamboo, Jenkins, or equivalent) for continuous validation.
  • Build test suites covering functional, regression, and performance testing of AI/ML models and platform services.
  • Act as a Databricks Engineer by contributing to pipeline development, feature engineering, and MLFlow-based model tracking.
  • Develop mock datasets, validation scripts, and reproducible experiments to test edge cases, data quality, and compliance alignment.
  • Partner with SRE/MLOps engineers to validate model deployment workflows (staging, promotion, rollback, retraining).
  • Collaborate with architects and Databricks engineers to ensure solutions adhere to governance, security, and enterprise standards.
  • Produce dashboards and reports summarizing test coverage, outcomes, and platform reliability metrics.
  • Contribute to reusable automation templates and Databricks engineering accelerators for new mission teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Data Science, or related technical field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust requiring U.S. Citizenship.
  • 5+ years of experience in test automation engineering for AI/ML or data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience as a Databricks Engineer (clusters, jobs, repos, notebooks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog).
  • Strong proficiency in automation frameworks and scripting (PyTest, Robot Framework, Selenium, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of MLflow, model lifecycle operations, and MLOps patterns.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline integration and Terraform-based automation.

Desired Skills

  • Certifications: Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate/Professional, or Machine Learning Professional.
  • Experience testing and engineering end-to-end AI/ML workflows in Databricks, SageMaker, or Bedrock.
  • Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53) and embedding compliance checks into pipelines.
  • Exposure to load/performance testing for distributed data systems.
  • Strong collaboration skills with architects, DevSecOps engineers, and mission data scientists.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
