SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cryo-Vacuum Engineering Technician to join our team. The Cryo-Vacuum Engineering Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of cryogenic and vacuum systems, including cryogenic refrigerators, vacuum pumps, and associated equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cryogenics, vacuum technology, and mechanical systems, as well as excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair cryogenic and vacuum systems, including cryogenic refrigerators, vacuum pumps, and associated equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on cryogenic and vacuum systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Responsible for proper installation and setup of cold chamber equipment and associated systems.
- Troubleshoot and identify issues with cold chamber systems, including mechanical, electrical, and software components.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and testing of cryogenic and vacuum systems.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to design, develop, and test new cryogenic and vacuum system capabilities.
- Work closely with [project leads and engineers to ensure that chamber systems are aligned with project and operational goals.
- Willing to learn and receive guidance from senior staff on proper handling and maintenance of equipment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working with cryogenic and vacuum systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Strong knowledge of cryogenics, vacuum technology, and mechanical systems.
- Experience with cryogenic refrigerators, vacuum pumps, and associated equipment.
- Experience with temperature controllers and instrumentation.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems and identify root causes of problems.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and other personnel.
- Ability to work safely with cryogenic liquids and associated equipment.
- Experience working with electrostatically sensitive equipment.
- Ability to work with extremely sensitive optical elements.
- Strong attention to detail, ensuring the accuracy of work performed and the reliability of equipment.
- Applicant must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance with the ability to be upgraded to a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance if required.
Preferred Skills (not required to apply):
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. mechanical engineering, or a related field).
- 10+ years of experience working with cryogenic and vacuum systems.
- Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software and programming languages (e.g. LabView, Python, C++).
- Certification in a relevant field (e.g. cryogenics, vacuum technology, or a related field).
This position will provide on-site support at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) located on Eglin AFB and is not eligible for remote work.
