Description

Description

SAIC is seeking a Digital Engineering Specialist – Modeling & Simulation (M&S) for HWIL and SIL Development for the US Navy's Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile-Nuclear (SLCM-N) weapon system.

In this role, the candidate will apply advanced M&S techniques and cutting-edge Digital Engineering principles to support system development, assess weapon system performance, and contribute to Verification and Validation (V&V) efforts.

This role focuses on designing and executing M&S activities for system and subsystem-level evaluations, as well as designing integrated architectures that connect physical and simulation-based systems. The selected individual will collaborate with engineers, developers, and stakeholders to refine M&S scenarios, enhance model fidelity, and ensure data-driven decision-making across hardware-integration frameworks, test platforms, and the broader Digital Engineering lifecycle.

This position requires onsite support at NSWC Crane Division in Crane, Indiana, and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of critical strategic defense systems through innovation, architecture development, and collaboration.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:

Modeling & Simulation Design and Execution:

  • Lead and execute M&S activities using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) methodologies, emphasizing integration within common engineering test beds to enable real-time performance evaluation and validation.
  • Develop adaptable simulation environments to model complex system interactions, integrating physical hardware with virtual representations for rapid prototyping, evaluation, and refinement.
  • Simulate real-world operating conditions to evaluate subsystem performance, sensor integration, and system behaviors across different lifecycle phases.
  • Architect and develop cohesive Digital Engineering environments that connect physical test hardware, models, and simulations into a unified and scalable system.
  • Ensure alignment between M&S frameworks, Digital Engineering principles, and broader program architecture to reduce design timelines and improve decision-making.

Architecture Development and Integration:

  • Collaborate with technical teams to conceptualize, design, and develop Digital Engineering architectures that integrate physical and simulation-based systems.
  • Define and manage the technical underpinnings of the digital thread, ensuring that simulation and physical testing environments remain interoperable, scalable, and adaptable to evolving program needs.
  • Leverage principles from Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Twin development to build robust system-testing architectures.
  • Identify and implement architectures that enhance coordination across HWIL/SIL platforms, simulation frameworks, and broader system development processes.

Subsystem and System-Level Performance Evaluations:

  • Conduct M&S analyses to evaluate subsystems, system architectures, and hardware/software integration under various developmental and operational scenarios.
  • Perform trade studies and parametric analyses using M&S tools to inform design decisions, assess alternatives, and enhance engineering outcomes.
  • Use simulation data to verify design feasibility, identify potential deficiencies, and recommend design improvements.

Model Validation and Enhancement:

  • Validate and verify M&S frameworks to ensure accuracy, credibility, and alignment with operational and developmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with program stakeholders and technical teams to ensure that M&S environments build on real-world data and Digital Twin representations for accuracy and operational relevance.
  • Recommend innovations and enhancements to M&S tools, frameworks, and workflows to address evolving program complexities and support next-generation HWIL/SIL capabilities.

Integration with Verification & Validation (V&V) Activities:

  • Align M&S results with system Verification and Validation (V&V) processes, enabling robust design verification, functional validation, and compliance with requirements.
  • Support the development of key deliverables, such as Requirements Verification Compliance Matrices (RVCMs) and system test plans using M&S-driven insights.
  • Present M&S contributions during milestone reviews, including System Requirements Reviews (SRRs), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), and other program reviews.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, industry partners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to define M&S objectives, requirements, and test scenarios.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports, briefings, and presentations summarizing M&S efforts, findings, and recommendations tailored for technical audiences, senior leadership, and program stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff in developing and refining M&S skills, advancing the adoption of Digital Engineering principles, and leveraging HWIL/SIL capabilities.

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field and 5 or more years of experience.
  • Interim secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance.      SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Experience in Digital Engineering, Modeling & Simulation (M&S), or systems integration, with emphasis on HWIL/SIL development and performance evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in common engineering test beds that leverage HWIL/SIL for system and subsystem-level assessments.
  • Proven track record in integrating M&S insights with Verification and Validation (V&V) or similar systems engineering disciplines.
  • Hands-on knowledge of relevant tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, STK, or other frameworks supporting M&S, HWIL, or SIL workflows.
  • Strong proficiency in M&S methodologies, validation, and real-world scenario simulation.
  • Excellent analytical skills for evaluating system behaviors, hardware-software integration, and model performance.
  • Effective communication to articulate technical findings to diverse audiences, including engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing Digital Threads and contributing to model-centric workflows across the system lifecycle.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Direct experience with missile systems, submarine-launched platforms, or similar defense applications.
  • Familiarity with organizations like NSWC Crane Division, OSD, or Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP).
  • Familiarity with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems is a plus but not required.
  • Certifications: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), or defense acquisition certifications in systems engineering.
